So according to the Chiquita website, once a banana has been refrigerated, it may not ripen properly even when brought back to room temperature.

I'm hoping that's not true! I had 14 gorgeous bananas that looked to be spotty and ripe, so I put them in the fridge to keep them perfect for a couple of days. I took a few for lunch today and they weren't ripe enough. Not *bad*, but could definitely use a few more days to ripen. When I got home I took the rest out of the fridge and they are at room temperature now. They were in the fridge for about 36 hours.

Do you think they will continue to ripen now? Will they get weird? Just stay underripe?

Thanks!

  • Thanks. Fingers crossed they ripen!

  • Let's see what happens.

Keep in mind that unless you live in a land where these things grow, they've already been chilled in storage for days or even weeks.  Maybe not all the way down to fridge 37 degree specs, but still pretty cold in all the trucks and grocery depts.  And those generally ripen just fine.
