Bad sweet potatoes? What's going on?

Hey I need help from someone who loves sweet potatoes as much as I do. I eat more calories from them than any other food. Just throw them in the crock pot, go to work, and slip them out of their skins and eat when I get home. They also digest SO easily

But this last week they haven't been cooking down to that nice slippery, almost creamy consistency that slips right out of the skin and through the gut. What gives?? Anybody have any clue on how to tell if a sweet potato is bad like these so I don't waste more money? They're not even close to rotten and they look normal... they have the sweetness and texture of a potato, but I don't want a potato, I want a sweet potato. >:( #firstworldproblems

Thanks :)

  • You make sweet potatoes sound orgasmic. Too bad I'm 99% fruititarian. Haha. Mmmkay. Sweet potatoes. Have you ever had a purple sweet potato? They're really neat. It's a shame you've got to kill a plant to get something so pretty. My local co-op sells them organic. You should try to find some! On the other hand... Most of my sweet potatos were always like you describe. Are you sure you weren't buying YAMS before? Maybe you usually eat YAMS but bought sweet potatos this time? Often times they are mislabeled.
    • same exact brand and everything, it's bizarre... As far I as I know, supermarkets just mislabel sweet potatoes as yams, and yams are a whole different family that aren't really popular outside of Africa and and aren't common in Western supermarkets.

btw, purple sweet potatoes are totally awesome, I rarely see them where I live though

      Thanks for your reply :)

      • I've bought a lot of sweet potatos that were actually yams. Depends on the supermarket, yams are yummy. You should go buy some! I had never seen purple sweet potatoes until the sngle but had heard of them and was eager to try them, this was before adopting a fruititarian philocephy. Even if it is the same brand are you sure they didn't mislabel a batch of yams previously?
