BANANA ISLAND!

Who would like to join me on a trip to Banana Island?

Banana Island, for the uninitiated, is a temporary retreat to simplicity. It is an excellent way to return to basics and take a break from any disordered or complicated food combining or eating.

This is the plan:

1) Go out and purchase a case of organic bananas and set them in a place where you can keep an eye on them as they ripen. You should have about 100 bananas. In about 2-3 days, buy another case. You don't want to end up wasting fruit,  but you REALLY don't want to run out of bananas once you're on the island.

2) Bananas ripe? Brilliant! Get started. This is when you begin the first of 2 WEEKS of mono eating only bananas and lots of pure, clean water. As many bananas as you like, don't be stingy about it, make sure you're eating plenty. Eat them out of hand or blended in a smoothie. Only bananas. And lots of Water. And remember to get as much sleep as your body asks for. Never argue with the body :) Oh, and buy more bananas.

3) Week 3- Banana Green Peninsula! This week add in celery and leafy greens. Observe how salty the celery tastes, and how romaine and other lettuces seem to just make everything hum and smooth out, I always love this week. I can't wait.

4) Continue with bananas as a base, but add in other mono meals if you like. Only one fruit at each meal- keep it simple- but as much as you need to feel completely satisfied. Mono mango is so delectable. Or, if you have some fresh dates around, blend those for a datorade. OR freshly squeezed orange juice or other citrus. LOTS. Or any other fruit that you can make a meal out of. Melons are hard unless you're an old hand at it. It takes a lot of melon to make a meal since they are not all that calorically dense. Like POUNDS of melon. But if your stomach is sufficiently stretched and you have a good source of ripe, organic melon- by all means!

Week 5- you're on your own now. Keep it simple and mono, or add back in some avocado, or a few nuts, or bring back simple combinations. By now everything should taste fantastic and you should feel amazing with clear eyes and lots of energy.

To re-cap:

WEEK 1: Only bananas and water and sleep. The epitome of SUGAR WATER SLEEP.

WEEK 2: SAME

WEEK 3: Bananas, celery and greens... water and sleep.

WEEK 4: Mono Meals + celery and greens. Whatever ripe organic fruits you choose. Can stick with bananas if you choose.

WEEK 5... Whatever feels right in the 80/10/10 scheme for you.

So, I bought my first case yesterday and plan on taking off for the island Monday or Tuesday. I'll check in once I begin. Please feel free join up whenever you and your bananas are ready. And post any questions or thoughts :)

  • I blend mine. But, of course you may chop them up or eat them out of hand. You should really be able to taste the saltiness of the celery.

  • Peninsula :)

  • So not only do I want to do this as a good Jump Start to my system but I have a bit of belly fat I want to loose. lol Do you think this would help?

    Thanks,

    Sarah

    • Hi Sarah,

Most people who do need to lose weight will do so on Banana Island. But don't calorie restrict! Be sure to eat as much as you need to feel satisfied and know that the simplicity of your diet is giving your digestion and your body a rest.

  • I'm thinking of doing Banana Island with a non vegan friend of mine. She seems really eager to do it too. She wants to do it for a month but I think one week is a good goal first off. Since neither of us have ever done banana island, and I've only been 811 for about a month (total. Off and on for 3 months)

    • Hi Ashley,

Banana Island can really help you get on track. It is particularly good for digestive issues and skin problems.

Doing it for just one week may be exactly what you need right now. But I must tell you that the first week is the hardest! So you'll be leaving the island just as all the benefits are beginning to accrue and the "worst" is behind you.

Everyone is different and on a different stage in their journey, but typically Banana Island brings amazing mental clarity and lots of energy. Since it is so simple, the body can heal and after a couple of weeks skin, hair, eyes all become much clearer.

So, go get your bananas and jump on in. Even a week will accomplish so much :)
