Can't Do RawTill4 >=(rant)

I'm so frustrated with my God forsaken body.  I began this lifestyle as 100% raw vegan.  Felt pretty awesome. Slowly I began eating cooked foods after a month raw (with no ill effects), and have since begun eating cooked up to 5 nights a week.

DIGESTION HALTED.  And my moods are swinging like Tarzan on a vine.  I'm not exactly pissed off about going back to more raw dinners.  I'm just disappointed.  I feel like my body is a worthless machine that can't get any job done unless I baby myself to the extreme.  I wish I could be a plain "normal" vegan that eats cooked dinners and still manages to have a happy healthy life.  I don't know what is wrong with my body but there is clearly some fixing up needed.  I just wish I could relax a little more without throwing my system into a frenzy.

I AM SO FRUSTRATED.  Looks like it's back to raw for me.  Good thing my town doesn't have a Chipotle anywhere nearby or I my raw resolutions would be hopeless...

  • The most important thing - remove all gluten products - they may be the cause of your mood swings and feeling mentally tired (that was my case). Replace wheat pasta with corn or rice pasta and see if you feel better after such a meal.

Try different cooked starches on their own - eat only plain potatoes for dinner for a couple of days and see how you feel. Do the same with white/yasmin rice. Then add sauces and other ingredients and see what happens.

For example, I can't eat white rice - I had it once and I felt terrible, moody and super sleepy the day after. Potatoes... I can eat as much as I want and I wake up feeling great :-)

  • No Worries Annelife, your body is simply telling you that you perform in your daily reality better on raw right now. Will it always be that way, maybe, maybe not. I'm in the same situation here as an endurance athlete and Ironman and I perform my best with epic digestion on raw. check out my Raw vs Cooked report for what happened when I did the raw till 4 program. I have less of an issue with steamed potatoes or a veggie soup with potatoes than other cooked starch. White rice digests the best. I would seriously avoid gluten and garlic. You will notice that Freelee does the same. Both will bloat you up and give you wicked brain fog. Anyone who disagrees with this has not had the chance to feel the clarity and focus and performance levels of 100% HCRV for over a year. I would suggest trying big veggie soups with potatoes or steam potatoes and veg with no harsh spices, onions or garlic. Check out Loni Jane on Instagram, she has a great book coming out, she's a lean bean on potatoes. Brown rice is sold by the Diet community to be better than white nutritionally, but does it digest better, I say no. That goes for harder grains like quinoa also. Jump on raw for 10 days and then try to add potatoes and watch carefully how you feel. I notice that too many cooked meals make me moody and self conscious and my happiness and performance decline. The question then is if your food guru changes what they do ... should you? and will you get the results they get if you eat cooked food? Do what you love and what makes you feel your best, be patient with yourself, there are some clear signs from your body. Test each item out anf you will have your answer. Very nice post! Thank you for sharing your truth:)

    • Thanks so much Lady Apple.   This message was just what I needed to hear.  Really helped put things back in perspective, and I will certainly take this to heart.

  • Thanks for all the help everyone.  I will definitely cut out the garlic and onion.  I'd heard that those were bad for IBS sufferers, but thought that maybe after the healing through this lifestyle that rule wouldn't apply anymore... guess not lol.  I know I should probably give up gluten too but... I like pasta.  Haha oh well.  I prefer health to pasta.  Thanks again!!

  • Pick a day recently (preferrably within the last 3, or yesterday) and list everything you ate (estimate quantities/calories as best as you can), how much fluid you drank (estimate) and sleep. Would like to help, but need to know where to start. :)

    Hang in there!

    • Oh cool thanks so much.  Well, here goes...

      Day One:

3 Liters water, 11 bananas, 10 strawberries, 4lbs grapes, 3 red potatoes, and a salad with mixed greens, tomatoes, and radishes. (2953kcal)

      Day Two:

3 Liters water, 11 bananas, 12 dates, 1.5lbs grapes, big plate of whole wheat pasta w/marinara and mixed greens, and 5-6 olives. (about 3000kcal)

      Day Three:

2.5 Liters water, 5 bananas, 20 dates, handful of blueberries, 1tbs chia seeds, 15 strawberries, same salad as before but w/Italian dressing, about 4 cooked cups white rice w/mushrooms and mild chile sauce. (3034kcal)

I should also note I've been using garlic, onions, and mild chile sauces a lot lately.  Not avoiding gluten right now either...

What can you make of THIS!?  And thank y'all so so much for taking the time to help =) I appreciate it.

      • I think that garlic, onion, and chile sauce are messing you up...stop those and keep trying...

      • I think garlic and onions are bad for digestion, at least for me they are. And gluten, some people are sensitive to gluten and can't digest it very well.

Why don't you try cutting out the garlic and onions and the gluten for a while first and see if your digestion improves?
