Craving fats..

Hey guys. I am new here. Only on my second day of eating rawtill4 or fully raw...just kind of doing what works for me right now.. Well anyways I am also on my second day of quitting all caffeine and I am struggling bad tonight. I am beating myself up because I ate 2 bananas with roasted almond butter. I was really craving some fats and I probably had more then what I was supposed to. Any ideas why that is? Any encouragement here? I know it's only day two and I have to say this way of eating has helped me so much with quitting caffeine cold turkey. My bowels are moving perfectly which is unheard of for me when I have tried to quit caffeine in the past. Also, I am drinking decaf green tea just as a warm beverage since I live in Canada and the coldness is really getting to me. Any newbie tips or advice would be great. Thanks!

  • Thanks guys. I stuffed myself more with fruit today and I am definitely not hungry at all. When I go for long walks in the cold I get hungry and feel ravenous when I get home..so I've been making huge fruit smoothies with a bit of coconut water to help curb my hunger..then I also ate 2 more bananas after because I still felt a bit hungry. Honestly my mood is SOOO much better already...I can get so depressed in the winter time here but the bananas make a big difference. Thanks again for the tips and I will definitely be avoiding roasted nut butters from now on.

  • The reason Kristina uses cooked nuts in her fullyraw recipes is if you just try and live on juice all day but the end of the day you want something really heavy and cooked 'raw' nuts can fill the caloric void. Defo not healthy though.

Raw nuts must be stored in a fridge otherwise they go moldy. I was told this by Bremmer Organics who specialized in raw almonds. He said that 100% of nuts on the shelf or sold online are cooked. Cooking fatty foods is something best to avoid for sure.

    • Funny how she promotes so much juicing but says adding sugar to smoothies should be avoided.

    •  Oxidized Unsaturated Oils

: For years the popular belief has been that it is healthier to cook with unsaturated oils. More recent evidence, however, indicates that these fragile oils not only oxidize readily but also promote the damaging effects of substances such as  HCAs. Both omega 3 and omega
      - 6 fatty acids oxidize with heat and/or light. The reason is that the location of the pairs of double bonds (in relation to each other) provides an attractive target for an attack by a free radical. Omega
      - 3 fatty acids  are the most susceptible, since they have the highest number of multiple double bonds. Ironically, many manufacturers are now adding flax seed to their cereals and breads as a "health benefit" and may actually be causing more harm than health. Olive oil, a monounsaturated oil, ismore stable, but one study found that the oxidized content of olive oil more than doubled when tested past the expiration date.

  • Carb up!  You're craving fat because you are not getting enough calories.  Cold weather burns a lot of extra calories so don't be afraid to eat.

Instead of eating two bananas and almond butter eat 8+ bananas and you won't even want the almond butter.

  • yes giving up caffeine is rough..and I have done it so many times over the years and had bad withdrawal symptoms..this has been the easiest time and now I feel strongly about avoiding it just by switching my diet the past few days! Those carbs really make me feel great. Also I wanted to add I am still nursing my toddler son every 4 hours so that could be why I need extra calories as well.

  • Awesome! I just started eating raw too. It's only been 13 days. I live in Ohio. It's so cold here. I've been struggling to give up my hot coffee too. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one struggling with giving up caffeine.
  • Thanks you guys. I ate a few more bananas tonight because I was just hungry still...and some more water and my mood has improved already. I do hope to get off even decaf green tea eventually but coming from someone who was addicted hardcore to caffeine for the past 7 years I am pretty happy with enjoying a decaf green tea for a short time. I don't ever want to go back to caffeine because it makes me gain weight in the long run and I have suffered so many side effects from it..like eczema, cold sores, stress, premature aging ie: wrinkles on my face, and just a stressed out appearance, relationship issues, muscle weakness, inability to exercise intensely  etc. Also I am not coming from a typical SAD diet. I was basically vegetarian on and off for the past 5-6 years as well. I haven't eaten a SAD diet in prob 6 years so the transition has been pretty smooth. It was more about dropping those last few animal products like eggs & honey. I was already dairy free, gluten free & mostly meat free :). But anyways thanks for the warm welcome and for all the great tips! If you have anymore keep them coming!

  • The next time that happens, try eating a huge meal of steamed or boiled potatoes and add in some other veggies if you like. You were probably just too hungry and maybe had a little low blood sugar, maybe not. If you fall off the no-coffee wagon, you can always start the quitting process again but taper off more slowly. Not that you'll go back to coffee, but if you do, don't let that be an excuse to also quit eating low fat vegan.

  • Carb up more and you'll crave fats less!
