Curve your appetite and obesity with high volume food

I got in an argument that Forks Over Knives was wrong, that the hunger response was hormonal as opposed to stretch receptors in the stomach. I finally got around to backing up the question from other sources.

"Soup's high water content gives it a relatively high volume. This activates the stomach's stretch receptors, which send messages of satiety to your brain." WedMd Chill out Your Appetite With Soups and Stews retrieved Sept 21 2015.

"Gastric stretch receptors detect the distension of the stomach wall in the presence of food, which directly stimulates neuronal pathways to the brain to trigger satiation and appetite reduction.9"J Diabetes Sci Technol. 2009 Mar; 3(2): 366–370. Published online 2009 Mar.

PMCID: PMC2771510Eating for Life: Designing Foods for Appetite Control Peter J. Wilde, Ph.D.

"In contrast, vertebrate appetite is regulated by hypothalamic sensitivity to hormonal signals reporting separately on the status of fat cells and digestive activity, and to blood glucose, in addition to gut stretch."Oxford Journals Science & Mathematics Integrative and Comparative Biology Volume 46, Issue 6 Pp. 838-846.Evolution and Function in Serotonergic Systems Rhanor Gillette1

In conclusion stretch receptors do indeed matter.  Hormones are involved too in addition to the stretch receptors. That being stated high water volume foods are a great way to curb your appetite and thus obesity.

I found supporting evidence for the hypothesis that high volume foods activate the stretch receptors as illustrated in the film Forks Over Knives. This would also explain why raw vegan foods help control obesity. There is less water in cooked food, thus less volume. Raw food have more moisture activating the stretch receptors making raw vegan ideal for weight loss.
