This could be a really helpful thread for newbies and those struggling with cooked food. Can we keep this thread just for tips and not comments about the tips?
Makes for easier, more efficient perusal :) I will also add to FAQ's, Any tips which we find aren't in line with the 30BaD principles will have to be removed, sorry. We want to keep this thread as accurate as possible.

A few of mine...(hope I haven't taken them all!)

* Avoid focusing too much on melons for meals to meet your calorie intake because they are so low in calories and may lead to undereating on this lifestyle.

* Write a list of the pro's and con's of cooked and raw food - evironmentally, physically, emotionally, ethically etc

* Make sure you always have ripe fruit on hand, buy a box of nana's today and have them ripening up for challenging times

* Learn about how to eat ripe fruit

* Develop a morning routine which includes a litre of water, exercise and a large fruit meal

* Eat a large mono meal for breakfast (& lunch), this will help guard you against night time cooked food "cravings"

* Really try your best to bare your bits to the sunshine daily, we have glands between our legs and under our arms that need stimulation from the sun and apparently this practice is necessary for optimal hormonal function.

* If you are feeling unhappy, depressed, angry, suicidal or taking things personally then address your key physiological requirements first before you label yourself as crazy and rush off to the pysch or a chakra balancing - which is SWS (sleep, water, sugar).

  • Hiya, Im Steph,

Im new to 30Bad, I have been vegetarian for 3years, vegan and high raw for 2years, only been 100% raw for just over a month, so im no pro!! But I love it, but sometimes i have found it a little difficult, the thing i have found that gets me through the difficult and weak time (may sound so simple and silly) is never let myself get hungry but also if i start to crave anything cooked, just take myself back to the last time i ate it and how i felt after i had eaten it, how my skin was the next day, how tired i felt and groggy!! YUK!! Sends me straight back to fruit every time!!

  • Think of your favorite animals and find a way to interact with them (as long as you can do so safely ;)

If you are not caring for them yourself, perhaps though petsitting, rescues, rehabilitation centers, etc.

Creatures possess much wisdom and unspoken communcation ability from which we can benefit greatly if only we are quiet and open enough to listen.

Plus, it strengthening our vegan mentality that animals are noble, worthy of respect, and may simply be our friends.

  • * When food cravings come turn them into an old friend that is no longer supporting you and have a conversation with them and 1) Thank them for all the good times you once had. 2)Tell them your life is different now and they no longer fit into this lifestyle. 3) Ask them not to call you anymore and if they do you will not be answering the call.

    * Always be kind to yourself you can always start over, NOW!

    • Taking care of our teeth on this lifestyle is easier than any other. I have been eating at least 97% of my calories from fruit for over 4 years now (& Harley about 6) and not one cavity or problem.  High fat raw is another story and yoyo'ing back and forth may lead to teeth problems. Adhering to proper food combining is a good idea.  I clean my teeth for about 40 secs with water twice a day, nothing special.
    • Darlene, I love this friend-metaphor for cravings!!!  Awesome :D
      • I loved it when I was inspired with this idea and it totally works and let's face it if you have ever had cooked foods, you're going to have cravings forever we might as well think of them like that person in our family we love but not always enjoy when they show up making fun of us. lol
  • I definitely agree about the advice that...

You should NOT wait until you feel hungry before you eat.
You should NOT wait until you feel thirsty before you drink.
You should NOT wait until you feel sleepy before you sleep.

I did a 10 day water fast earlier this year and when the fast was over I felt absolutely no hunger whatsoever and I have little doubt that if I waited for true hunger to show up I would have done myself so serious harm. The same goes for water, if you feel thirsty it's not because it's time to drink something, but rather it's because it was time to drink something a long time ago.

And sleep is so important and ignored that 95% of the population probably need far more sleep they are currently getting. I hear people all the time saying that they only need 8 hours of sleep a night or less, and yet they are constantly walking around with a coffee, soda, or energy drink in their hand.
    • and yet they are constantly walking around with a coffee, soda, or energy drink in their hand.

Or raw cacaobars and other "superfoods". Daniel Vitalis thinks coffeebeans are great, let's all drink coffee. ;o)

  • Well, based on mistakes I made earlier on...

Don't believe the hype about "super foods". Remember that "Raw Foods" don't come in boxes, cans, or jars and please simply stick with produce from your supermarket. If you get into "superfoods" that you have to order through the internet you will go broke!

Realize that dietary deficiencies can take YEARS to show up, so if it's your second day as a raw vegan and you are already worring that you're starting to suffer from some kind of deficiency because you went raw vegan you need to relax and check out the living examples of people on this forum who have been doing this for many years and have the blood tests and athletic achievements to put your worries to rest.

When you are buying a ton of fruit and everyone is looking at you in shock have fun with it! Look at it as entertainment as well as a good chance to share your diet with those who have obviously never really heard about it. I used to want to pay someone else $5 just to go through the checkout line for me because of how much everyone constantly wanted to ask me why I was buying so much fruit, but now I would be disappointed if I bought 300 bananas or a shopping cart full of watermelons and I didn't get any reaction at all. You can be a shinning example of this diet and you could even save someone's life by being the one to share this information with them.
  • Make sure your dates are not steamed and sugared. Buy them organic.
