hey frugivore!

i figured this discussion would be beneficial as you head into your 30 day frugivore diet challenge. please add below why YOU are choosing fresh living food now instead of cooked.

i have been a fruit-based vegan for 14 years on January 1st 2021. initially i spent many years on an all-raw living-foods diet. it was amazing but i allowed myself to get too hungry too often and fell back into cooked foods. for years i tried to get 'back on board' then i gave up and decided 'raw was too hard right now'... obviously an excuse. since april 2020 i have been back on living foods and many wonder why i made the shift from raw till 4 back to all raw.

so i should clarify here. since being back on the frugivore diet (high carb raw vegan), i have had toasted nori, a pasteurised juice here and there and maybe a few dishes with cooked cashews (which are never raw). i am eliminating these, not for purity reasons but because i feel best eating living foods.

below are some of the reasons i prefer the raw vegan frugivore diet over the raw till 4 diet.

BEAUTY-FULL: on living foods i just feel beautiful even if nobody else thinks i am. 💁🏼‍♀️ like a superhero 🦹‍♀️ sometimes it's hard to put into words how i'm feeling but beauty-full, as in filled with love. nourished, whole, alive, vibrant, satisfied, excited, complete. when i eat meals of cooked food this beauty-full feeling is dulled and suppressed.

TASTE: one thing i had forgotten over the years since including cooked food was that i actually prefer the taste of living foods over cooked foods. this ofc makes sense seeing that's what human frugivores are designed to eat! i love the depth and complexity of flavours of raw living plant foods whether it's just fruit or combined dishes. cooking destroys so much of this complexity and the delicate flavours then the human frugivore attempts to add it back in with various condiments. once my tastebuds were 'clean' again (and i ate enough calories) i no longer 'craved' cooked food.

PASSION: my senses are sharper and i feel an extra ziiiiing and passion for life. i have never achieved this fully while eating cooked meals.

DIGESTION: my digestion is not optimal when eating cooked meals, it never really has been. i came to the lifestyle with very poor digestion and large fruit meals have always been queen when it comes to optimal digestion and assimilation.

SKIN: i've been taking notes on this for years - i love the sun protection phytochemicals like carotenoids (namely betacarotene) gives my skin. this protective effect disappears with the inclusion of a single daily cooked meal as the amount of fruit ingested in reduced below what is needed. the betacarotene is stored under the skin (that rawfoodie glow) where it awaits conversion to vitamin A when needed and also provides SPF 4 which is great because SPF 8 can block 90% of vitamin D production. although you can still burn on raw, i find myself being able to withstand so much more sun and tan more easily. also love the year round glow this gives. i find my skin is constantly moisturised and never dry regardless of weather. skin pores also shrink and return to normal. overall skin quality is fantastic and obviously much healthier.

HEALING: my wound healing is clearly accelerated on the frugivore diet. more nerve energy is freed up from digesting difficult cooked meals that can now go towards wound healing and tissue regeneration.

ADDICTIVE TENDENCIES: i love how loud and clear the 'eat' and 'stop eat' signals are on the raw frugivore diet and how there are no addictive tendencies. no emotional urgency to eat just a relaxed feeling even when hungry. for instance, one time i cried and actually got angry over the thought of not being able to have my usual plant-based burritos within the next hour. i was extremely emotional and wasn't overly hungry. and when i did have these foods the rate of eating was hurried and intense. my blood sugar variations were also much greater. i realise not all cooked food is created equal but now no matter how hungry i am i don't have this crazy pull to eat eat EAT and as soon as i do feel that 'must eat more of this NOW' feeling then i know what i've eaten is not raw. i had this sensation after eating some 'raw' crackers which actually ended up having a number of cooked ingredients. even fermented saurkraut doesn't give me this feeling or even salted raw food dishes.

PERIODS: i really enjoy lighter periods and without fail they are always lighter on all living foods.

FOOD PREP: i love love love flameless food prep, it's magic for me! so enjoyable, no sweating, no burns. i actually love creating beautiful vibrant dishes now whereas it was a chore with cooked food at dinner time.

PEACE: i seek out more peaceful surroundings and people. i strive to conduct myself in a peaceful manner. i am still a passionate fiery individual ofc but raw inspires me to approach life from love rather than judge others harshly and see them as bad people, to understand their struggle. that doesn't mean i won't be holding others accountable and speaking up passionately with the truth but it's about always keeping my intentions pure and from the best place.

ETHICS: animal liberation is important to me and eating this way is far better for the animals and environment than even a cooked vegan diet.

FOOD FOREST: i am more excited to grow my own food and spend time in my food forest.

BIOLOGY: i'm a frugivore so i am designed to eat this way 🤷‍♀️

IM DONE: that's it! cooked food just doesn't work for me anymore. yep, it doesn't... but it never really has, no matter how much i told myself it was ok.

i may add to this list as things pop into my head. please lettuce know below why you are doing the 30 day challenge or why you stopped eating cooked food etc. let's inspire eachother to be true to our frugivore biology :)

These are some points of clarification in response to some common questions and misconceptions regarding 30BaD, FYI.

thx for reading peeps,

The 30BaD mod crew
--

Will I get banned for saying I eat cooked food?

No, no one here has ever been banned because of saying they eat non-raw/non-vegan food. We respect that everyone here is at different stages in their health journey. Virtually all of us come from a SAD/omnivorous background at one point or another. Most of us have slip ups when starting out on the lfrv path. We are here to support people on their lfrv journey not ban them because they fell off the wagon. Anyone who has told you that you will be banned for mentioning eating cooked food is mistaken.

What we do not permit is promoting cooked foods, animal foods, condiments, spices, superfoods, gourmet raw dishes or under-eating fruit as being optimal for health. Since this is a vegan site for obvious ethical reasons we do not support the endorsement of animal food consumption or the use of animal products. Nor do we permit others to be rude to other members, including the moderators.

In some instances we recommend folks to eat cooked vegetables or starches to avoid starvation but for the most part we promote a 100% lfrv diet and want to help people succeed at living this lifestyle. Whether or not you are currently 100% lfrv, you are still welcome to browse the forum and participate in discussions.

If however you truly do not believe that a 100% lfrv diet is optimal and/or feasible then 30BaD is probably not the site for you. There are many other forums on the web that may better suit your beliefs and needs.

Do I have to eat 3000 calories a day every day?

Not necessarily. Each individual’s caloric needs will vary depending on their age, gender, weight, body fat composition, activity levels, etc. We recommend using an online calorie tracker like nutridiary or the free downloadable program cronometer to calculate your caloric requirements based on your individual vital stats.

If you want to have optimal energy levels, nutrient intake and sense of well being, then yes 3000 calories is a good base level, particularly for the athletically inclined males but also females who want to be highly active as well. But again caloric requirements depend on the needs of the individual.

What we do not recommend is drastically under-eating calories either to lose weight or facilitate ‘detox’. Under-eating is a sure way to fall off the lfrv wagon and can contribute to potentially serious physical and psychological problems.

We choose how much physical and mental activity we engage in daily; we do not choose how much water, calories, nutrients, sleep and sunlight we need in order to thrive. For optimal health we must obey the needs of the body, not try to decide what it needs.

Are unseasoned steamed veggies/boiled sweet potatoes etc. really that bad for you?

As far as cooked food goes they are by far the most optimal choices.

However since many lfrv’s feel ill after eating these foods, this suggests that they are less than optimal for vibrant health compared to raw fruits and tender greens.

Eating cooked veggies is your choice. If you are not interested in being 100% lfrv we respect that. Considerable clinical evidence shows that a low fat cooked food vegan diet has enormous health and disease reversal benefits compared to omnivorous and lacto-ovo vegetarian diets. We support anyone adopting and practicing a vegan lifestyle.

What we do not want to see here in the forums are more discussions rationalizing why one chooses to eat these foods (i.e. environmental reasons, financial reasons, because certain indigenous tribes eat them etc.). If you choose to eat cooked vegetables for whatever reason that’s fine, you do not have to justify your decision to anyone else but yourself.

That said we are of the belief that if one truly wants to maintain a 100% lfrv lifestyle it can be done almost anywhere in the world we live in today. 30BaD is here to show you how, not help you make excuses for not doing something you don’t really want to be doing.

I don’t run ultramarathons and bike hundreds of kilometers every day. Does this mean I’m sedentary?

If you’re doing 1-2 hrs of exercise a day on average then no! Even Dr. Doug admits that he only does about an hour of exercise a day. How much exercise you do in a day is your choice. You don’t actually have to do ANY exercise, only if you want to feel great and be as healthy as you can :)

The minimum amount of exercise recommended by the WHO is 1 hour of moderate intensity exercise per day on average (for some this might be a 3 mile brisk walk). This is also what Doug recommends. This is the minimum amount, not the optimal amount. More exercise will of course yield better results in terms of fitness and overall health. If you can’t do this yet, however much you can do is far better than nothing.

All wild animals by necessity must be athletic in order to acquire food and avoid predators. Sick and wounded animals do not live very long in the wild; obese wild animals are impossible to find.

Humans by nature are also athletic, though we all have varying athletic abilities. Many are at sub-optimal levels of fitness due to health challenges and a world which demands that we be sedentary. The goal is to increase our level of fitness wherever we are currently at. We gauge our progress by our own improvements over time, not by comparing ourselves to
others.

Is running bad for you?

If you’re already in reasonably good health then no. Anyone who drops dead of a heart attack after a run was not in good health to begin with, it can’t be concluded that jogging was the sole cause of their death without taking other lifestyle factors into account.

If running or whatever physical activity is really something that does not appeal to you then you don’t have to do it! Endurance athletes are drawn to their sports because they love them; find the activities you love and do them as much as you care for every week.

Now it is of course your choice whether you want to be 100% HCRV, high raw, or whatever, but this site's primary intention is to encourage and support those whose goal it is to be HCRV 100%, wherever you live, ideal climate or not. Those who are vegan and/or high raw are of course still welcome here.

While there are certainly far worse things we can be eating than cooked veggies, it is the conviction of the 30BaD crew and many of the most experienced frugivores here that they are far from optimal compared to our specific foods, raw fruits and vegetables. Nor are cooked foods necessary if we have access to enough ripe fruit. Even frugivores in the coldest winter climates are able to secure abundant supplies of fruits and stay 100% raw throughout the winter.

If you want to eat steamed greens or boiled sweet potatoes, that's your choice. Being vegan is probably the most important dietary choice you can make for ethical and environmental reasons. A high raw low fat vegan diet has tremendous health benefits compared to the alternatives.

30BaD is ultimately about what is optimal regarding health, particularly with respect to diet.

We are not ultimately controlled entirely by our external circumstances: staying 100% raw or eating cooked food is our choice. Either way is not right or wrong, but like all our choices they have consequences. Most of us are aware of the health benefits of staying HCRV so I won't elaborate on them here. We do encourage you to consider doing so if you haven't already, and to stick with it if you are 100% raw but are having doubts. The consequences of wise choices regarding health are health benefits after all.

Those who are AGAINST the idea of being 100% raw vegan or have absolutely no faith that it is optimal for human health would probably do best seeking another forum.

I do understand that doing lfrv 100% in a cold winter climate can be quite challenging at times; it gets as cold here where I currently live (Canada) as it does in northern Scandinavia. So I've decided to start a support group for those in colder climates to go/stay raw, BigG's 811rv Winter Bootcamp. Humans were intended to live in the tropics, particularly during the winter. No frickin' doubt about it! But that doesn't mean that any of us can't do 811 100% virtually wherever we live, until we can relocate ourselves to a more suitable location. I'm sure as heck planning to move to a warmer location as soon as I can, but I'm staying 811rv 100% until that time; I'm not going to wait for ideal circumstances to present themselves. If I decided to wait that long for going 811rv 100% may never have happened.

Whatever vegan diet you choose for yourself, and of course we encourage you to choose HCRV 100%, we do welcome you here as long as you abide with the forum guidelines.

Sincerely,
The 30BaD crew: Freelee, Harley, and the mods.
