April!! Or come for however long you want! If your looking for a nice place to spend the winter, surrounded with tropical fruits and fruitarians from all over the world keep reading! Or you can take a look at the progress we've made so far, like gathering all the information you need to know about Costa-Rica, or the people already on board, or the possible land we are interested in... And more, all on our website http://www.fruitariancommunity.tk

Now here's the index of everything you need to know about the gathering... With my phone number at the end for more information...

Housing
Cost per month and available food
Activities
What to bring
Topics of circles

HOUSING

I hope to have at least 20 people present for the event. We'll try to fit everyone on the same property. So bring you tent! We will share a kitchen, which will be a good opportunity to learn about sharing a kitchen among fruitarians... Or good opportunity to show how we behave in communal spaces, after all, one of the main objective of this gathering will be to see each other in many situation! We will also plant a garden as soon as we get there, so all you green thumbs can be satisfy! We hope to move to a land that interest us, to learn about it as much as possible about it before the big investment.

COST PER MONTH

For hoursing, food, communication, and transport, i say from 350$ to 650$ a month minimum, let me explain... The housing will not cost more the 600$ per month, all depends on how many people will show up, the rent will be split among us, it can cost you as little 20-50$ a month if enough people... Food is quite expensive, so if you want to eat awesome food like sapote or durian (if available), it might cost you up to 15$ a day, so 450$ a month. BUT!! If you decide to give a little effort, you'll easely find food around that nobody cares about, like coconut, rose apple, sugar cane, some jackfruit, many varieties of bananas, plantains, coconut palm heart, oranges, and many greens like local spinach, colllards, katouk or cranberry hibiscus, my favorite, etc... If you go this way it could cost you only 5$ a day or 150$ a month. I will buy a truck for everyone's groceries, at least for as many people as possible, and for looking at lands, going to the beach etc... So I will ask for gaz money, not much, but with other transports like bus's, I would say 100$ a month. Then for communication, its easy to spend 2-5$ a day on internet, so about 100$ a month.

ACTIVITIES

We hope to be as proactive as possible, and not just surf all the time...lol. Looking for land and building a garden will be a good part, but we need to get to know each other as much as possible. So we need to play together!! Any sport like soccer, frisby or even tag will be part of our days. I also will try to get a Risk board game, believe it or not this game worked very well last year to learn about some people... Any suggestions will be welcome, I bet we won't run out of ideas!

WHAT TO BRING

A tent that is well aired, or a large mosquito net with a tarp over it, or a hammock with a mosquito net incorporated in it, with a tarp over it. Don't worry though there's barely any mosquitoes year round! Some good hiking shoes, as light as possible, crocs and five fingers might get wormed out fast on the gravel roads and long hikes we take to look for land. A sleeping bag is not essential, a blanket can be plenty, but some summer sleeping bag can be very compact compared to a blanket... Outer then that you know the essential, tooth brush, cloths, ceramic knife, wooden spoon, etc...

TOPICS OF CIRCLES

The group will be divided into 2, the ones truly interested in becoming a resident of the community, and the ones whom are there simply to witness the event... the fist ones will have lots of circles to attend to, even home works!! We will be talking mostly of the vision. We need to find out what is the core goal of every one, the long term one. Then we need to choose a legal entity, a cooperative probably, that is to buy land under many people's name, to protect each other financial and legally. This will be the toughest thing to accomplish. After we learned about each other and made a fancy document, one or two of us will have to go back with me to Montreal Canada to finalize the entity... Which will take about a month of work. Its important to understand the necessity of this, I really hope you did or will read Diana Leave Christian's book Creating life together... Our bible if you ask me... In there you will see what we will talk in details, and how we will talk, like with a facilitator, some of us are trained in this. Also we will talk about the different branches of the project, such as a animal shelter, a yoga center, a PRI (permaculture research institute), a healing center, etc.. Lots to talk about!

So I hope i gain your attention... And like I said, you can simply come as a witness, enjoying the fruits, the beach and the fruitarian company! No stress!

For more information please don't be shy, add me on Skype, I'm pom.vincent, and on Facebook I'm pom vincent, with no period in between.

Blessings!

While taking the 2nd round of antibiotics I ate a couple date meals and my skin broke out in an atrocious rash.

For the past 10 months or so it has been a real struggle to keep my candida under control. I very rarely eat overts, such as avocado. Now, I sometimes have lentils in a pinch, but that is recent. At the time of the flare I was eating no overts, no cooked carbs. I have not been drinking bottled or filtered water, mostly tap water. A lot of my fruit is conventional.

I see a lot of people post about candida being solved by 80/10/10, but what if you're already doing it and the issue lingers??

PLEASE HELP! Has anyone else experienced CaNdidA on 80/10/10 that seems to grow and growww ??

It gets smaller sometimes and then comes back, mostly when I put too much weight on it. Nothing excessive, even doing pushups can be too much.
I really want to be able to do a handstand, cartwheels etc. In order to do this the ganglion must go! Does any of you have experience with healing it on a LFRV diet? I've read online that one of the old methods to get rid of it is to break it with a book. Must hurt a lot! And am hoping diet will help. Have been low fat vegan for 2 years and (high) raw / fully raw for 1.
Surgery is not an option.

Love to you!
<3 Leonie

Hello,

I have quite a difficult situation, which has been reoccuring in the RV community, but unfortunately ignored or improperly addressed. Before I state the problem, I will try to depict my situation for a sense of background, so please bear with me.

.

I am 22, 56 kg, have been raw for about 4 months now (have not lost weight as I've been underweight regardless of diets), was vegan ("raw till 4") for about a year prior to that. My diet consists of 3 meals a day on average, the first two of which are high calorie fruit mono-meals, and the last one is a green salad, often containing fat sources such as avocado or coconut oil. The greens content range from .5 to 1 kg, as I've seen John Kohler from OkRaw recommend, consisting of dill, cilantro, parsley, watercress, arugula and spinach (not a fan of lettuce), all with the interest of getting enough minerals like calcium, which is a problem to get on this, or any other diet otherwise. Not huge on nuts, I eat about 2 brazil nuts a day for selenium in between meals. Have also been considering pumpkin seeds for zinc and flax for omega 3 pufa's. Had a negative experience with chia. More often than not I get a sugar craving afterwards. I do get enough water (2-3 liters) and sleep (9-12 hours).

My average day (Cronometer) - I consume 2,500-3,500 kcals on average . Garlic, chili and salt are added mostly for their antimicrobial properties.

.

TLDR: The symptoms I experience are: brain fog, bloating, flatulence, feeling of intoxication, drowsiness, restless sleep, no desire for physical activity; dermatologic: periorbital dark circles (PDC), orange skin (carotenosis), oily facial skin, couple of small eczema patches and dry hands. Also my blood tests indicate below the norm levels of leukocytes, red blood cells, hemoglobin and hematocrit (page 1, page 2). I should also note that my libido is slightly less than non-existent. And lastly, thinning of the enamel (I irrigate and wash my mouth with soda after every meal, and do not eat unripe fruit).
There are two guesses I have in regards to what might be the major cause for most of the symptoms:

The bacteria populations ferment the fibrous greens, which results in toxic metabolites(1). It could be that the bacteria has also invaded the small intestine (which is supposed to be sterile), as the bloating/gas response is often quick.

Sugar fermentation, as a result of:

2a. an antagonistic microflora.

2b. the high fiber content mostly of greens, which makes the food procession through the digestive tract slow going, but I assume this is highly unlikely, otherwise every high-greens RV would be dealing with the same problems.

Either way, it seems to me that fermentation metabolites can:

Inhibit the conversion of beta-carotene into retinol (vitamin A);

Inhibit liver function, which results in PDC(2);

One more reason for which could be that due to disrupted metabolism, micronutrient absorption, e.g. magnesium, is inhibited, which causes adrenal fatigue, which in turn causes PDC (or so DR says), but this seems a little outreaching;

Chronic stress, be it as a result of the fermentation metabolites or not, could deplete the adrenal gland, causing PDC as a result;

I'm sure more connections could be made.

.

What I plan on doing and experimenting with:

Consulting my doctor, and asking for a liver test for fatty liver/alcoholic liver syndrome, which I heard is obtainable by some only after a year on a raw food diet;

Remove greens completely by removing the salad, and replacing it with one of the previous meals, which I consider to be quite extreme and potentially malnourishing. Such a change might eventually make me go back to the "raw till 4" regimen, but the enamel thinning started before I went raw..;

Remove all fats(3);

.

I feel that my case is far from rare, and in the best case scenario it is ignored, due to lack of competence, which is prone to critique. But this obviously makes me motivated to find the solution, one that does not go against at least the vegan principles, seeing so many success cases out there, and the science against eating meat (see Dr. Michael Greger, Dr. Adiel Tel Oren, etc.).

If you have anything to contribute/respond with, please do so, every feedback will be highly anticipated and appreciated.

.

I will be updating with new test results and/or changes in my strategies. Hopefully, the solution to the problem will reveal itself soon enough.

.

References:

1. http://www.drmyhill.co.uk/wiki/Fermentation_in_the_gut_and_CFS

2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Periorbital_dark_circles#Liver_problems

3. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carotenosis#Causes

.

Edit: added some symptoms that I forgot to mention.

So I am going to be living in London for 3 months and would love to know if anyone is living there and knows of good places to get fruit for reasonable prices and how the whole vibe is for us raw vegans, i'm a little nervous about the reactions I will recieve about my way of living. Then in January I will be attending FGCU in south west Florida . Would love some feedback from anyone who is familiar with those two places. Thanks :)

Ahh I experienced my first full blown buddah belly from gorging on a large meal of bananas for dinner last night. I couldn't believe how it felt, It felt so uncomfortable to sit. I wanted to just be rolled around like a rollie pollie lol.. I could never even push out my stomah to imitate a pregnant belly like many people can do, so this felt so alien to me. To my surprise I woke up the next morning like Ghandi, flat belly like many of you promised ! Three months into LFRV and looks like my belly is finally learning to expand for my meals. AND after years and years of trying to get the body I want and failing miserably every time, I am finally beginning to see results. From carbing the f*&k up and eating till my heart desires! Who would of thought!? I can't help but laugh at my old self.. who used to try "the military diet" the "master cleanse" and all of those ridiculous fad diets that would leave me tired and miserable with no results! ALl my co-workers and people in my enviroment always look at my like im crazy, with my green smoothies and melons and "crazy fruit meals." But I could care less, because the more you know you are doing the right thing, the less you need others to accept it! And this is coming from someone that has always cared what others thought. I can't even express the happiness, the sense of humanity and the self esteem I have gained from becoming LFRV. Just wanted to express the happiness and gratitude I feel for this life-style, so happy I found you all :)

I also used to make sure I would wake up to work out at least four times a week. Now, I wake up around 12-2 pm ! I have never slept this late in my life! While I feel great sedentary on the 801010 life-style, I am finding it difficult to work out because I wake up so late and have to get to work ( I work at 3pm so Im not forced to wake up early).I should also mention that I work till 12 AM, 5 nights a week so I go to bed around 1 am. But i am still ranging around 12 hours a night! I feel like i shouldnt feel so tired. I am curious if I should just listen to my body and sleep till whenever I feel like waking up.. or if I should begin to set alarms and wake my lazy self up to work out although I am feeling so tired? Does this extensive sleeping issue happen to alot of raw foodies?

So it's officially been a week that I've been eating mostly raw (90%?) and doing so while in college. I've been subsisting mostly off oranges and my stomach is yet large enough to get enough calories from them so I've been undercarbed. However my stomach is expanding so I've been able to eat progressively more every day. I'm honestly not this used to chewing my food so my jaw hurts when I try to eat. I've thus recently decided to blend the meals I can and substitute my bfast with OJ for the time being.

I'm not sure if I've lost weight or if I'm running around so much that my clothes has expanded. My pants are falling off but my gym shorts don't look or feel any looser. I doubt I lost enough weight for it to be noticeable anyway.

My acne has improved noticeably. When I came in I had quite a bit of noticeable acne and now a week later it has toned down very nicely. My detox symptom however is chest acne though, which has left me quite self conscious with what I wear.

There is so much alcohol on campus. Last night there were massive campus wide parties and now the halls reek of beer and other cheep alcohol. I went to some of the parties and was glad to find that even though I was constantly offered alcohol I could just say that "I don't drink" and everyone respected that. No one got offended when I didn't accept their drinks or asked me twice.

Eating raw at Uni is not that hard. I talked to the chef of my servery about it and he supports me fully, which is awesome. I usually eat at the servery for fruits like grapes and melons, and this week I ate quite a bit of their oranges as the bananas were not enough in number or even ripe enough for consumption. However, I asked for a box of bananas to be given to me at the servery which I will be able to take to my room and eat to my heart's content as they become ripe. There are times when I have to go hungry because lunch is located at public events and hosted by someone unaware of my dietary situation, but for the most part I'm pretty decently taken care of.

Socially it's not much of a problem I eat with everyone else but just eat something different. Going to restaurants gets a bit tricky but for the most part I don't do it much so if we are going out I might eat a veggie wrap or something. People are starting to call me a bad ass vegan. I like it.

Anyway there is much more I can say but college calls. If anyone wants to know how to be/stay raw in college I'd be glad to answer any questions.

So I have been LOVING the 801010 lfrv diet, I feel awesome, very energtic and full of life, which is my ultimate goal. However, I have been trying to loose about 15-20 pounds for a LONG time now and this goal is very important to me. I will weigh myself weekly and have been down three-four pounds, but then weight myself the next week and be up three to four pounds. This has been happening for almost three months now and it is beginning to become pretty frustrating to me. I usually eat 5-6 bananas or a half or whole melon for breakfast. For lunch I will usually eat an abundance of fruit, such as mangoes or peaches. Then before work I will have another Banana smoothie ( sometimes I will add 5 or 6 dates). Then for dinner i will have a big salad with veggies in it ( sometimes a 1/2 an avocado or a handful of nuts) and on some days I will have some cooked potatoes or cooked vegetables, but not too often. I know it is key to be patient, but I would really like to start seeing at least a little bit of results! I was wondering if anyone has a good raw food combining diet suggestions for me that has helped them lose weight because I am feeling pretty lost ! Thanks :)
