I've never been that concerned with my weight but I just want other people's opinions/experiences on the subject. I'm 6 feet tall and I'm down to 136 pounds. I've always been slender but it seems like it's been steadily going lower and lower but I don't weigh myself that often. I don't even own a scale. I thought I heard/read somewhere that when you go raw your body gets rid of all the old toxin-containing fat and then builds back with some healthy fat. Has anyone else heard that? If so, I'll just assume that this is all part of the detoxification process. I've kind of been thinking that anyway. You'll probably want to know what I eat and how much. My main staples are: dates, bananas, grapes, romaine lettuce(usually two to three heads a day, I've been craving it like crazy), and all sorts of other fruits intermittently. I easily get at least 3000 calories a day.

More stats: I've been vegan for fourteen months and then 'cleaner' vegan for over eight months. 99% raw these last few months. I've been through several other 'detox events' so I think that my eliminative organs weren't working so hot up until I made the switch to a healthy, more ethical lifestyle.

Peace.

Will the passing comments EVER stop?!https://www.thefrugivorediet.com/forum/topics/will-the-pasing-comments-ever-stop2014-06-11T03:40:18.000Z2014-06-11T03:40:18.000ZAmy @amy_brierlyhttps://www.thefrugivorediet.com/members/Amyamybrierly

Okay so I have been vegetarian for 6 months solid now and vegan for 1 of those months.

Being vegetarian, yea I got the comments oh why don't you eat meat.

Response "I don't want to eat animals" - every one shuts up. My fave is Datorade and they all say it looks grosse even though I tell them it tastes like a caramel milkshake... the last few days I thought I'd swap it to freshly squeezed oranges.... it looks great but now I am being challenged on whether 'that' much fruit is good for you.

ITS SO IRRITATING!!

If I bought in a disgusting high cholesterol burger no one would say anything. To be honest, my initial motivation for coming on this lifestyle is for weight loss in the long term. We'd been to a wedding earlier that day, and though I brought fruit and a fruit smoothie with me, I still wasn't able to eat enough (because heavens forbid there be vegan food at a wedding! =( ). I thought that combo of brown and white rice, raw veggies, and raw fruit would do the trick, in terms of getting me some more calories so I didn't completely bonk out the following day, and could sleep soundly. I would have just gone for straight-up fruit, but my stomach wouldn't have been able to accommodate the volume of fruity calories I'd need.

The only place in town that has a nice variety of vegan sushi is usually really good, and I have no problems with it on the rare occasions I decide to get it. Not so much this time! I ordered about $40 worth of sushi (I was a HUNGRY human!), and was very excited when it came! But the second I bit into a piece, I realized the rice was salted! I think this is because the sushi chefs dipped their hands in salt water, instead of the plain water they usually use, to keep the sushi rice from sticking to their skin, which resulted in a slight salty sushi roll. I was hungry, and didn't want to waste the food, so I just decided to eat it, anyway. I figured I'd be a bit bloated in the morning, since I was eating late, and the food was salted. I made sure to drink about three cups of water before going to bed, so I could offset some of the bloat. I thought the raw fruits and veggies in the rolls would help take care of me, too.

I awakened today feeling AWFUL. My throat was dry, and my head felt as though it were full of cotton balls. I immediately drank a litre and a half of water, before practicing yoga. During my practice, I could FEEL how dried out my muscles were, and how much my skin had swelled. My practice worked on opening my hips, which brings up a lot of stuck emotional energy and unresolved issues -- translation: I started crying towards the end of my practice! I know it's because I was/am anxious about the salt's effect on my body. In the grand scheme of things, it's better for me than fatty food, but I am still upset, because I love how I usually feel on this diet, and I know that salt messed that up. I also can't help but feel guilty for not just trashing the sushi, and going to bed hungry. I know I shouldn't feel guilty, but I hate hurting my body, even if it's totally unintentionally. I am very much looking forward to the whole, beautiful watermelon I am going to eat today, as well as a bunch of delicious, perfect champagne mangos, and at least one banana-romaine smoothie! =) Also, I am seeing Joss Whedon's 'Much Ado About Nothing' today, and I am really excited! Whedon's usually credited as a very feminist director, but there are actually a lot of misogynistic issues with his works that don't get properly addressed, and I am looking forward to seeing if he puts those issues into his telling of 'Much Ado', or amplifies them as they were present in the original work.

I'll leave you all with this quote, which is especially pertinent for myself today:

“Life will give you whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness. Questions about going vegan/raw in Paris...https://www.thefrugivorediet.com/forum/topics/new-here-questions-about-going-vegan-raw-in-paris2012-06-29T16:53:54.000Z2012-06-29T16:53:54.000ZKendalhttps://www.thefrugivorediet.com/members/Kendal

Hello! So, I admit, I get off and on the vegan wagon and right now I'm at a point (after reading the 80 10 10 book) where I'm eating more raw fruits and veggies, less bread, but the occasional cheese and (yeaaaaah it's been my favourite food for about a decade) occasional sushi. I had a much easier time being vegetarian or vegan (except that sushi thing) when I was living in Los Angeles, but last year I moved to Paris. That just threw everything off, especially living with no kitchen or decent sized refrigerator. So I ended up eating a LOT of bread and a LOT of cheese, and a lot of non-organic produce. Now I have a kitchen. But it's still difficult to stock up on fruits and veggies and I'm wondering if anyone out there has any advice. Here are my current problems:

I don't have a car, so when I shop, it's basically an "all you can carry" sort of thing.

The organic shops (Naturalia and Bio-something or other near my place) don't have a wide selection of fruits and vegetables, and what they do have is kind of pricy. I just paid 4€ for a tomato, and 4,99€ for a tiny thing of strawberries. The other day I bought 16€ worth of fruit and judging by what the book and other people say they eat per day, what I bought would count as about a meal. I can't sustain that, financially. I'm trying to find out if there are organic farmers markets near me, but no luck yet.

For today, I stopped by the store (after eating a couple of those strawberries this morning) and got a pack of 10 peaches, two small packs of raspberries (125g), and a persimmons, none of which were organic and all of which added up to about 8,50€.

I'm just not sure how to keep fed, and how to find organic produce. I dread the winter - last winter all I saw were apples, bananas, and oranges, and I'm not a huge fan of those fruits (except orange juice). I'm very much a berry girl, and have been since I was little. :-)

I DO have a little room to grow a garden now, and I've purchased seeds for kale (I miss kale!!!), spinach, lettuce, and a few other things.

Is there anyone out there living and surviving on a raw food diet in Paris? Or even vegan? What do you do about going out to eat? I would honestly bet that 99% of the food in Paris has either dairy or meat (or both) in it. Going out is kind of a nightmare. My husband told me today that he's come to dread the question of "what should we do for dinner?" because I'm becoming such a picky eater. While he loads the fridge with meat and cheese. His supportiveness on this is another issue completely... lol

Anyway! Help is appreciated! Thanks!

this article..??https://www.thefrugivorediet.com/forum/topics/this-article2012-05-23T02:23:11.000Z2012-05-23T02:23:11.000Zoxabbsxohttps://www.thefrugivorediet.com/members/oxabbsxo

http://www.sarahbesthealth.com/high-fruit-diet-disaster/

thoughts?

Fred Bishi on eating too much fruit - what do u think?https://www.thefrugivorediet.com/forum/topics/fred-bishi-on-eating-too-much-fruit-what-do-u-think2012-03-25T07:56:16.000Z2012-03-25T07:56:16.000ZMarinahttps://www.thefrugivorediet.com/members/Marina633

Here is a video of Fred Bishi talking on danger of eating too much fruit. Problem is, they are pretty expensive, before I was buying olivia's organic and it was basically 7$ per salad plus the cost of anything else I might decide to put in my salad. Too much. I'm wondering how much other people spend on greens and what greens you get? I'm settling for conventional bananas at the moment, well actually I got organics that I'm finishing up then it will be conventional for awhile. I pretty much always got organic greens before because I didn't want them to be low in nutritional content and to give myself a break from pesticides, how important are organic greens? How badly do they get sprayed? I wanna start eating salads again but man they are expensive. Is it better to eat conventional greens than no greens? I'm getting realllllly *I#*$#ing sick of dealing with the relentless bombardment of chemicals and having a hard time making a decision on this, should I eat conventional greens everyday or organic like 3 times a week or something?
