There has been a lot of debate over the health benefits of fish. Its well known there there are three types of omega-3s. ALA which is found in flax seeds. DHA which is found in seaweed. Yet, the elusive EPA is the hardest. Yet, finally the source of fish's EPA oil is microalgae. Consume flaxseeds, seaweed, and microalgae and you can be vegan and still get all your omega-3s.

"microalgae EPA and DHA-rich oils and recent clinical results."Curr Diabetes Rev. 2007 Aug;3(3):198-203.Omega-3 fatty acids for nutrition and medicine: considering microalgae oil as a vegetarian source of EPA and DHA.Doughman SD1, Krupanidhi S, Sanjeevi CB."

What puzzles me is this article was printed in August of 2007. Yet, now we finally know. Now there really is no reason to consume animal products.

"Although scientists know eating fish twice a week provides enough omega-3 fats for health benefits, it's less clear how much omega-3 is in a serving of algae, or what the optimal dose is if you take an omega-3 supplement derived from algae." Janet Renee Livestrong
