Fruit wholesalers in Phoenix

I live in Casa Grande, Arizona and there's not any fruit wholesalers nearby. Dos anyone know of a friendly one in Phoenix or does all of the AZ fruit munchers just use Whole Foods? Also, if any of you know of a big farmers market nearby I'd like a recommendation for that too. I'm searching the web but not finding too much info.

Thanks guys!

  • Thank you :) I can't wait to get my hands on some of these. I'm hoping to find persimmons. I've been dying to try them....

    • Ooo, psimmons are a fave of mine!  As of a few weeks ago, Stella mentioned above had some great local ones.

Also the asian stores should be stocking them, but not likely organic.

  • one more thing.  Our member Sunshine regularly creates lists and little displays of the best fruity deals he finds that week here.  Keep an eye on the Viva group comments and the homepage blog scroll.

  • PM me and I fill you in on some fruity details :)

    • Will do!

      • Ok, here I is.

WF is a nice store with good quality, but there's a reason its nickname is Whole Paycheck ;)

While they do offer a bulk discount, you better be loaded to load up on produce there.

There are several true wholesale mkt here in town, but some won't sell to the public, and some are more challenging.  The one that actually welcomes our singular biz is Kodiak:

Other options for scoring over-ripe or unique produce are ethnic stores such as the many Food City's (they regularly sell overripe nans for just $4.00 case) or Asian stores such as:

        Mekong

        or Leelee's

Another great deal is the Market on the Move, where you can nab about 60# of produce  for just $10.  It does exactly that, moving around multiple and various locations throughout the city.  You never know exactly what you're going to get till you show up.

        now for local goodies:
There are various mkt systems, but the flagship is

The best is Roadrunner at cactus and hwy 51 every saturday morn.
The growers Windmill Farms and Twin (I think) Peaks run by Jason are good, but the prime stand is Horny Toad Farms.  Contact Stella 602-796-6157 and let her know you're another of those crazy fresh fruit and veg lovers who's interested in bulk purchasing.

        Hope this helps!
        • Thanks WL!  I'll definately check in to those. This has been a great help!
