Help! Balancing a banana/rice based diet.

I have gained 10 lbs from eating mainly banana smoothies and jasmine rice with bragg for several months. Although I am not raw, my diet follows the 811 RT4 HCLF plans, but I am not seeing any positive physical results. I am concerned about deficiencies with this diet and would like recommendations for fruits and vegetables that would best fit this diet. I am on a college student budget so please keep the suggestions within reason.

  • Read the CTFU ebook and follow his advise 100%

  • It may take you a while to see positive physical results; more months or possibly even years. The weight gain is most likely due to metabolic healing, however if Bragg is high in sodium like Jim said, then I would cut that out immediately. There are a lot of things you wouldn't expect have sodium content. For example, just the other day I learned that baking soda/baking powder has high sodium content. No wonder I felt puffy.

  • I would eat brown rice. Not white. It contains more nutrients and more fiber. I use spicy seasoning like chili powder or cayenne pepper no salt.

    • chili powder is da bomb combo!!! +1
  • bragg liquid aminos? isnt that stuff high sodium? that could be the 10lb gain.

you could toss in potatos / salsa / oatmeal / quinio for some other options.

for me bananas and rice are liek staples along qith quiona from there i eat dates pineapples tomatos brococoli oats etc... the cheaper the food and the more calorie dense the more i eat of it otherwise i might use it more as an add in to what i'm usualy eating so that i can get more nutrition. I also eat a fair amt of watermelon too.

I dunno what to think of the weight gain. my weights swung 10lbs in either direction in the 3+ years i've done this with little ryme or reason i've tried to ifgure out the why but I got no idea. Tho i've spent more time on the higher end of that. I dont really have weight to loose tho either But i got plenty of flab so I'd like to see myself lean out some more to be honest but that has not really happened for me.

My running and endurance has really gone nuts however and i feel much better sot hats why i keep doing it.

    • Thanks for your reply. I could try lowering my sodium intake. I am looking for salt substitutes or any other sauce to put on rice that's low sodium. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

      • i make a fresh salsa and drown rice in that a lot. but just a plain tomato sauce is good too even.
