How do you keep your breath fresh?

I work in a corporate environment where I'm frequently attending meetings, presentations and seminars. Therefore, I'm constantly surrounded by people speaking in close proximity.

I realize that your breath does not smell as foul when adopting HCRV diet as compared to SAD; however, it's not always 'minty' fresh.  I brush my teeth 3-4 times a day and between brushings I was using Whole Foods 365 peppermints, Spry gum or fennel seeds (herb).  However, now that I've completely transitioned to 811rv a month ago, I started to question these items as 'raw'.

Do you exclude breath products (mints, gum, sprays, etc.) as part of HCRV?

How do you keep your breath fresh throughout the day?

Is this even anything to be concerned about?

  • Parsley!!!!!!!! :)

  • chew on a mint leaf?
  • Al-Nisa, why not just chew some fresh mint if you want refreshment in your mouth chamber! It packs a powerful zip! Otherwise, you will not only have super fresh breath as a result of this diet (with dark greens too of course), but you will notice that at least 60% of people smell like walking bags of sh....t emanating from their mouth cavities.. sad but true.. I won't go into any MORE detail, but after being raw since '99 I have noticed that not only is it amazing how sensitive your nose becomes to truly clean people, but you can smell disease brewing better than any "intuitive" .
  • i just brush with water before bed, or after a sticky meal (dates or something) my breath is always pleasant, although it's not minty fresh, but who decided our breath should be minty anyway?
    • Thank you, Patch.

You make a good point 'who decided our breath should be minty anyway?'.

I guess I'm so used to that 'Ah-h-h feeling'.  Also, I learned from listening to NPR public radio in my area that peppermint has been found to enhance athletic performance.  Here's a short article on it:

      http://bodyhacker.com/2010/05/20/peppermint-can-help-enhance-athlet...

I tried taking 2 mints before my high intensity workouts and found that it worked.

I guess I have to follow HCRV much longer to experience the un-aided pleasant breath.

      Thanks again.

      • that is interesting about the peppermint....i remember back in school our teachers would give us mints in order to improve our scores on standardized tests

i think the reason it improves mental and physical performance is because it is a mild stimulant, it is just causing out bodies to work a little harder, the peppermint isn't actually doing anything itself ya know? so in the long term regular use of it wouldn't be beneficial

good luck getting to that beautiful breath stage!!

  • After a while on this diet your breath will be fresh all the time provided you don't eat garlic and onions, or yeah - avoid durian right before the corporate meeting ;)

    • That stuff looks great.  Have you ever heard of oil pulling?  It is common in Ayurveda, but it's basically swishing a small amount of oil in your mouth vigorously for about 10 min. first thing in the morn before your water and brushing allowing it to froth up and pull out saliva and 'yucky stuff'.
    • Thank you, Yuliya.

      I'll look into this products.
