how to make daterade?

How do you make daterade?

I just tried to make it but it didn't taste too good and It was pretty thick, is that how its supposed to be.. I blended 8 bananas and 34 dates with like a cup of water. am I making it wrong? I don't really like the taste of dates to begin with so maybe that's why

  • If you are making it just to drink then use whatever tastes good but if you are using it as a sports drink then you want to be more specific. Since we can only process a gram of carbs a minute max we don't want to exceed this during activity. One Medjool date has 18g of carb, so you would want about three in an hour of exercise. Since it is also recommended to have 8oz of fluid for every 15 minutes of exercise, we can then get an idea of how many dates to use in our drink. Do you want to only drink daterade, or do you want plain water as well? I prefer daterade alone and use a 16oz water bottle.  1.5 dates is all we can absorb in 30 minutes, therefore I would mix that with my 16oz of water to be used in that time. 

    TLDR ... 3 dates in 4 cups of water per hour of exercise. Adjust accordingly. Cheers!

  • Try it without bananas, it'll make a big difference. I'm not a huge fan of bananas + dates blended together either

  • thanks everyone, I think I just need to use more water, I thought it was supposed to be like a smoothie but now I know its spose to be more like sugary water  :)

  • Blend dates with a bit of lettuce, it makes ultimate workout fuel.

  • I put 20-25 dates with like 30oz of water. When I blend it real good in my vitamix the consistency is almost like water, not thick, but watery. It's comes out like mapley sugar water and I really like it. I don't really like when my daterade gets real thick and hard for me to drink, that's why I blend it with a lot of water. Oh! and I like to put one peeled apple in there too. Mmmmmmm :)

  • Make it thick in the morning then mix with water during the day. I pour in a small bit of thick date smoothie and fill the rest with water.

    One cup of water makes cupcake batter. I aim for sweetened water.

    I have also heard celery helps reduce the supper sweatiness/ burning of throat/ indigestion.
  • Yes, I feel like you :D ñam ñam whole fruit.
    Sorry, no ideas on how to make better datorade, maybe soak the dates overnight, but that's about it. I find it bleugh anyway.
