"MAY contain TRACES of milk"??? Oh no.

Hello friends. So I have recently noticed on some packaged vegan foods the label "may contain traces of milk". Maybe you've seen it before too. I am unsure where to draw the line when this comes into play. One example of this type of food is clif bar. They have vegan ingredients, yet often state that there could possibly be some evidence of milk. Is this a problem, a reason not to support clif bar? I believe they are not certified vegan also, but I just watched a freelee video from january where they bought clif bars. So do you think that this label matters? From an ethical and environmental stand point, I think it could. When you buy the product, you are likely to be supporting the dairy industry. Even if it is indirect. In terms of health, I think the "traces of milk" could be an insignificant amount, as it's not an ingredient. What is your view on this matter?

  • It's just a legal term so if anyone gets sick because of it then they can't be held liable for it. It doesn't have any milk or egg in it, but the machines used may have small traces of it when making other things besides clif bars.
    • Yeah, it doesn't actually have any milk ingredients added to it, but there is a small chance that the equipment used has a fraction of milk particles left on it that could cause an allergic reaction to someone very sensitive.  It's up to you if you want to support companies that still sell non-vegan products or if you want to support 100% vegan companies.  I usually do a bit of both as it can be difficult to always find vegan companies but when there's the option I'll take it.
