My Family Says I'm Gonna Get Fat

So I've been going all out on the non-restriction thing, having 10 banana smoothies every morning, another 1,000 calorie smoothie for lunch, and huge bowls of rice and pasta for dinner. My family is part of the whole "carbs make you fat" movement, so every time they see me have these meals, they raise their eyebrows and comment, "That's a lot of white rice..." "You're eating THAT many bananas?" "Wow, you're really going to town, tonight!" etc. Especially the bananas, they tell me how they've read that they're pure sugar, high in carbs, blah blah.

Besides me explaining that pure, natural carbs don't cause insulin spikes because of the fiber in the foods, I also explain to them that humans are meant to live off of plant-based carbohydrates, and that I don't believe humans should limit their intake of fruit any more than a lion should limit his intake of gazelle, or a caterpillar should limit his intake of leaves.

So I eat a lot in spite of their comments, because I'm frankly tired of restricting myself so much. All my life I've been adapting my portion sizes to the people around me, even though I knew those measly meals wouldn't satisfy me. Especially since I'm a woman, but I find myself naturally wanting to eat more than most men eat, so I feel like there's something wrong with me.

There is a little voice inside my head that tells me I shouldn't have such a voracious appetite, that I should have more "feminine" portions, but my under carbed brain allows interrupts and says, "Screw that! I'm gonna eat as much as I want, I am so done with restricting myself and feeling unsatisfied because of it. I don't care if people think I eat a too much, that's none of their business. This is my life, I'm gonna live it to the fullest, and I'm gonna EAT to the fullest!"

So thankfully, I haven't given in to peer pressure, and I don't see myself ever going back to restriction. I'm not gaining weight, so they can't throw any concrete evidence at me against my new eating habits anyway. It'll just be nice when I get the physical results to show them it's actually the reverse!

Has anyone else had any experience with people telling them eating Raw Till 4 will make them fat?

  • Yup me :D

I am raw till 4 for a year and a half now, I never tried other way of being vegan. 2-3 years ago I got 12kgs more from eating a lot of meat and animal products since i lived in Argentina at the moment and wasn't vegan. Fucked up my thyroid and also my stomach. Came back to Europe with that extra kgs on me and started going to the fitness and eating lots of chicken, egg whites and whey(1200call and 6 days exercising a week) and in two months lost the 12 kgs extra I had, I was SOOOO happy :D then, my doctor said NO WHEY NO MEAT FOR YOU, AND MILK AND MILK PRODUCTS, cause of my thyroid and my dad had kidney problems and that's genetic so she was worried (and my doctor is vegan so haha) i was like???? what am I gonna eat then, had no idea about veganism. Checked online and found my queen :D Freelee, turned vegan next day :)
As expected in the following year-year and a half I got back the same 12kgs i lost with weight lifting and eating 1200cal a day of chicken egg whites and whey basically. This is something I expected, i need some healing to do... But I keep doing what i'm doing cause I feel really good and I know the weight is just temporary thing, I'm more focused on enjoying life rather than obsessing about weight. Oh and yeah bikes my bff :D

(not to mention I was calorie restricting especially when i was at high school and first years of uni)

  • My mum is clinically obese.

She says bananas and rice cause obesity yet she would only eat maybe 10 bananas in a year or a 1kg bag of rice every 6 months.

If you tell idiots you are going to get a bike they will say 'but you will get a sore ass! you will get a flat tire!'.

If you come back to them in 10 years they will still be out of shape and you will be so fricking fit and lean they will think you are a heroin addict haha.

  • my friends and family told me I would...and then I did... and I gained a lot.... so.. not sure if that helps... I guess it's apart of the "repairing" of one's metabolism, but honestly I've been at this a looooong time.. I don't really think anyone giving these recommendations really knows wtf they're talking about...so I'd advise you not to overdo it until you know how your body is gonna react over time...

  • Thats horrible, but hey welcome to the brain washed minds of society! The only way some people gain wait on any vegan/RT4 diet, is more than likely caused by lack of sugar that they've received to their brain and body over MANY years.. Serious metabolic damage can also be accountable.

  • My mom is the same way. She's always like "you're gonna eat all those bananas?" Or rice, or whatever the heck it is I'm eating. (Even being pregnant, she still thinks I eat too many carbs). The other day we were in the kitchen eating clementines & she ate one & she was like I want another. And I'm like so eat another.. & she was like "idk why but I feel like I can only have one fruit at a time" smh. But a double bacon cheese burger is so normalized. That's 3 different sources of animal proteins. But god forbid you eat 2 bananas & someone is watching. People are crazy. Don't let them get to you. They're misinformed.
