questions on a few foods

hey alljust curious how others following the fruit and greens type lifestyle treat a few food items i'm unsure about.. none of these are mentioned too much among fruit-eaters (probably cuz they're passed up lol)do you guys eat okra? i bought some at the asian market a few days ago and ate some tonight, just straight like most things.. they don't have that significant of a taste but they have a kinda gluey liquid insidei also just read something about mushrooms in this novel i'm reading and it reminded me that i've been kinda curious about them.. i haven't really eaten or craved them since starting this way of eating, but they seem like they could be a natural food as they are easily available in nature (tho some are poisonous).. what kinda info or experience do you guys have on/with shrooms? (no i'm not referring to the psychedelic ones lol)peas? know they are supposedly pretty starchy but what are they like raw?artichokes? can the hearts at least be eaten raw?asparagus? green or wax beans? any root veg? umm.. that may be it.. yea, that's all for nowall of these things i haven't really eaten since giving up eating steamed veggies, and just curious on your guys' take.. asparagus tastes pretty good raw but thought i've heard of certain compounds in it that aren't good for humans.. could be wrong.. string beans i've eaten raw and aren't bad but what are they actually? a vegetable? don't think they're actually a beanso the list is:-okra-mushrooms-peas-artichokes-asparagus-string beans-root vegetablescomments on any or all are much appreciated

    • yea i used pumpkin with bananas & dates in smoothies and puddings during thanksgiving.. real good.. wouldn't be a root vegetable though i don't think.. may even be a fruit?
  • pumpkin blended with dates & bananas is real good.. i went to a thanksgiving potluck where i poured this mixture over smashed dates for a pumpkin pie.. turned out more like pudding, but it was tasty
  • How do you all eat the asparagus? Do you shred it to make it more digestible?
  • Where do you get fresh, raw peas? And pumpkin?
  • Last night i had nothing to eat but raw snow peas. They tasted sweet. i am not sure if it was because i was starving and had only eaten about 500 calories all day. But i wouldn't have them in my normal repertoire. The other things you mentioned i have no desire for at all because i am so into fruit now.

    Grace and Peace be multiplied.

    • i like them too...especially shittake. but i do get a bit nauseous afterwards sometimes, so its more of a rarity for me.

asparagus can be yummy...but it really makes your pee smell funny, no?! lol
  • I love raw okra, especially fresh out of the garden in the summer. It's amazing. I also like young, tender asparagus (the really thin ones). Mushrooms are a fungus, so I avoid them. I buy snow peas on occasion for my son, but I don't really like them so I don't eat them. Artichokes are a cruciferous veggie (along with cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, etc). I get stomach pain if I eat these. Root veggies are harder to digest. I usually don't eat them, but I do enjoy jicama on occasion.
  • Raw artichokes are nothing special and hardly edible in my opinion. Too much insoluble fiber and not enough edible matter.

I don't recommend eating too many root veggies but the ones I do recommend on occasion would be beet, carrot, and jicima. If you've never had jicima, it is a large ugly root bulb with a light, crisp, juicy and mildly sweet inside. I've only ever had it about 3 times but it's decent.
  • that's intriguing.. artichoke was definitely the one i was most curious about.. a friend of mine mentioned how he ate an artichoke, leaves and all, but it took him like five minutes to chew each leaf to where it was in the state where he could swallow it.. but this is coming from a guy who eats the skin of pineapples and the cob of the the corn lol.. he's kind've a big root eater too, so he has conditioned himself to digest some tougher things that would probably double me over

idk bout the leaves.. i def couldnt eat them whole (couldn't even do that w/ steamed chokes back in the day), but i was wondering more about the heart, since they used to be so delicious coooked.. i am going to have to buy one just to appease my curiousity, so i'll report back when i do
  • Hey hey,
-Had okra and don't like the gluey sensation in my mouth but its fine by my digestion
-Mushrooms used to eat them all the time and wondered why i was bloated so much, they are a fungi and are pretty tasteless as a mono meal, i avoid them
-I love fresh (like 1-2days old) sweet peas, too starchy if older than that
-Artichoke haven't been there.....don't have any attraction to them, would rather juicer foods
-I love snake beans but string beans not sure of, maybe its the same thing? Snake beans good!
-Root vegies- pumpkin & beet is good spiralised or shaved, don't dabble in any others...
