salad greens in smoothies

What are everyone's thoughts on putting salad greens in smoothies with fruit rather than having to eat a huge salad at the end of the day (or perhaps even along with eating a large salad as well)? is it bad to combine fruit and greens in smoothies? is putting a bunch of greens in a couple smoothies with say bananas enough for the day or should i still eat a huge salad?

  • I usually eat my greens in smoothies and just raw plain, I never make salads anymore.  I'll eat a head of romaine alone or just munch on greens from the garden.

  • I sometimes throw a head of lettuce or some greens in my lunch banana smoothie.

Never for breakfast, though. I prefer just fruit & water before lunch time.

My wife throws in a big heap more greens than I do, and even greens & lettuce together.

  • ya i feel the same way. sometimes i just don't want to spend 30 minutes eating a huge salad when i could make a delicious sweet smoothie with greens in it instead. just wanted to make sure it was ok to combine fruits with greens, so far it's worked out well for me. how many greens a day is enough?

  • Ive had great results with this. I blend up a 4lb bag of oranges with a 1lb of spinach. Really great.
