  • Hey! Yes I'm new. I just became vegan recently since July 29. I live in the New England region, United States. The fruit here is okay sometimes it's hard to get nice juicey fruits! That's why I do eat rice and other carbs because sometimes I find it hard to always have great tasting fresh fruit on hand haha!
    • Yes I exercise atleast 5 times a week I do lift weights but I also do 30 mins of cardio everyday. I think my problem is I should be eating more whole raw foods! Like you have described to me. I also think my body is adjusting to this huge new change in diet. I'm not sure how long my body will take to adjust completely. I love chick peas they are really good I like to make a cold bean salad with cilantro and corn and balsamic vinegar and squeeze lemon juice.
      • Hey Jamie,

I am impressed and happy to hear that you are exercise a lot, because you taking care of your health. When you write that your problem is that you should be eating more whole raw foods, do you feel dissatisfied, because you need more integretiy and you would like to eat healthier?

Your recipe sounds delicious. I don't eat vinegar but I will keep the idea in mind for my next chick pea dinner.

Btw I send you a friend request so we could continue our conversation from friend to friend if you like.

    • Yeah I could
Google whole seller near me and buy lots of fruit. That's a good idea. Wow lucky! Mangos are amazing I love them. They are probably my favorite. I do eat pasta I really like it. And I like jasmine rice just plain. I also really love oriental yams but those are rare to find and I like sweet potatoes. My favorite is pasta though. I should probably move more towards the whole foods to lose the weight that I want too. How much fruit do you eat a day now? Can you tell me what your meals are like now? And what are they like when you are doing fully raw? Do you
Notice a big difference on how you feel ? And your weight ?
      • How much fruit I eat today now is different to answers, but normally I eat like two big fruit meals with greens a day. For dinner I will have potatoes, lentils, sweet potatoes, chickpeas or other beans with raw vegetables and maybe some lettuce and avocado. Typical fruit meals can be for BF: 2 papayas with greens, LU: 8-12 bananas depending on size (with greens or follow by at least some celery or cucumber) or today BF: greens, bananas and a few plums, LU: peaches, apricots and greens.

When I eat fully raw my BF and LU stays almost the same, but for dinner I would have some sub-acid or acid fruit and then followed by big salad with sub-acid/acid fruit, vegetables, greens and nuts or seeds. Maybe some seaweed or wildgreen powder I made myself, which I usually add to my fruit meals too.

The big difference for me is that I feel much lighter when I eat fully raw. Especially after an evening meal. As long as I eat one cooked meal a day and not more my digestion is really easy going, but it's even better if I eat completly raw. Also I get easier out of bed the next day, when I eat only raw. One thing I experienced is that when I eat more cooked starch my respiration systems starts to clog up especially when I would eat grains like rice. That's why I try to avoid rice for now.

My weight stays pretty much the same, no matter if eat high raw or full raw. I am a leight weight person and moving a lot. My body has no chance to put any gramm of fat onto my body. Haha :D

What about you? Are you exercising regularly?

    • Yeah sure, thank you I just read your story! I really became vegan at first because I wanted to become healthier and lose weight. As I did more and more research I really started to realize this was the best choice not only for my health but for a better life and many more reasons.

Yes there are a few farm stands around me that I go to sometimes but I mostly go to the local grocery store to get fruit. I went today and got mangos, bananas, and dates. Bananas dates, apples, and oranges are usually pretty easy to get. The farm stand is only open for a few months until it becomes winter again.

So when you run out of fruits you will eat rice and potatoes? Do you eat white or brown rice? And do you ever have pasta?
      • Hey Jamie,

good to hear that there are a few farm stands where you live. So I guess it will be tougher in the winter time?

I don't know if you have a car, but if you have, you could go to a wholeseller and try to get boxes of fruit. That's a lot cheaper and you get some exercise while carrying those fruit boxes around. :) Also you can ask at the stores and the wholeseller as well if they have food they will throw away and you could take it instead. What do you think about these suggestions?

Yeah, right know I am eating cooked starches, not only when I run out of fruit, also because the fruit is not so cheap right know. In the next days I will move to another place and life more close to nature. On the land where I am going to stay are 30 year old mango trees and other fruit trees as well. Hopefully their will be enough on the land so I have to buy little. Then I will eat fully raw again.

Usually I stay to whole cooked foods and prefer starchy vegetables over grains. When it comes to rice I take brown rice. Pasta? Yes, but very few times. My last pasta was like two weeks ago and the next day I had some problems with my digestion. So for now my girlfriend and I made the promise to our self to stay to whole foods.

What about you? Are you eating pasta and what's your favourite cooked dinner?

    • Hey Jamie,

congratualations to becoming vegan. Do like to share your short story on my blog post Why I live vegan since 2008.

New England? That's in the upper north east of the US, isn't it? So sometimes it's hard for you to find juicy fruits and you are loooking for a way to get them often?

What fruit then do you have always accessible? Is there any staple?

I think you are doing a great job if you eat a lot of fruit and stick to whole foods such as rice and potatoes when you don't have enough fruit. That's what I do to.

  • Hey Jamie,

are you new to the forum? What do you want to chat about?

I am living on the Canary Islands and the fruit here is very delicious and dense. Most of the stuff I eat is harvested next door ;) Where do you live and how is the fruit?

    Michael
