Hi, I always wondered why people must put water in the banana smothie?

Ever add water to your fresh orange juice, or your green juice? I just really don't see the point.

Here is how you make a OG banana smothie. Fill Vitamix with ripe organic bananas and PLUSE blend on variable speed three. My Vitamix doesn't have pluse so I just set it at speed three and turn it on and off, works just like pluse. Why would anyone want to add water to this?

  • I never add water, I use a lot of fruits, and have to spoon eat it. Will set up like thick pudding in an hour (pectin from fruit does the same thing as animal gelatin).
    • My friends are always asking me to make these "Flavor Bombs" that taste diluted if water added. They can add water if they want to...
  • why add water?   why blend???

the stomach acid thing is when it's NOT mixed with food, if you drank a huge glass of water diluting stomach acids and then ate some food straight after you might have a harder time with digestion, but bananas have to be one of the easiest things to digest.  It does not make a difference  to stomach acids if you add water into your food, like a soup or smoothie.

    • Why add water? Still a good question... Why blend? because I don't want to chew up 12 bananas, don't think I could anyway, I would get to full. I'm convinced that adding water does affect your digestion, it's not that big a deal. I was just wondering why people add water to the banana smothie.  Sorry it's just not a natural thing to drink a watered down banana smothie! I always wait half and hour at least between food and water consumption. We have know about this rule for a long time, not only does it apply to the 811 lifestyle, but even for the sad eaters. It's just that the 811ers are just more often health extremists, so that's where the question comes from.

      • Yeah 'cause blending is sooo natural and the world has always had power points to plug in the natural blenders :P
Blenders grow like bananas I'm sure.

"because I don't want to"  - there you go, you answered all your questions in this thread.

      • Weston you avoided my question!!!

If I replace the water lost from the fruit at the time of picking to the time I consume it, then wouldn't the ratio of water and nutrients be natural?

I believe the way you are eating the bananas as shown by your pictures is unnatural because they are in fact dehydrated bananas?

  • Usually add dates and berries to my banana smoothie and find it blends better with a bit of water.

  • Ah not all of us have a vitamix and some people actually have the opposite issue where if they do not add water they get constipated from drinking banana smoothies that are too thick.

    • drinking enough water between meals should resolve constipation. The shitty blenders can not be helped, people might as well use a mortar and pestle.

  • Nice banana glow you got going there, bro ;)
The reason I add water is that I want banana smoothie, not pudding. Texture issues, I guess? I'd agree that they digest even better the less water is added to the mixture (they say water dilutes the stomach juices).
