To fast or not to fast . . .

I moved out of a house infested with mold two weeks ago. Most of my symptoms are gone but my new apartment remained uncleaned for 3 months after the last tenant. My symptoms in the new place (coughing, wheezing, sinus drainage, sneezing) seemed just from a dust problem which we have dealt with post haste. I have watery yellowish liquid leaking from my nose at random intervals, as of this morning. Sinus infection? Most days are 955 and once or twice a week 811. I get up at least 3 times a night to pee (which sucks because I now have to go down stairs to get to the bathroom).Would a banana island help clear this up or should a fast be considered?

  • Thanks for all of your suggestions! Unfortunately I broke my pinkie toe on my right foot whilst walking my dogs this morning. This quote shot into my mind.
“Pain is a call for attention and the penalty of carelessness.” ~ Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj ~
Every step is fantastically painful and regular shoes are out of the question. Me not paying attention and wearing vibrams caused this problem. Ironically, I can now only comfortably (for lack of a better term) wear vibrams. Any suggestions on how to handle having this thrown in the mix? As far as healing a broken toe?
    • great quote (truth)! the body will take care of the toe without you even thinking about it. just try not to do any more harm. ;)
my leg was broken a few weeks ago, so i know what you're feeling. other than resting more and using crutches, i haven't changed a thing and it's mending very well...
      • Great to hear (that you're mending well)! 1 leg push-ups it is. The prospect of working less than 6 days a week although enticing won't be happening for a while. I own the shop I work out of. Banana island here I come. The frequent urination thing didn't start until I encountered the mold. My body seems to flush all my fluid to remove the VOCs released by the mold. For now I think I'll get one of these.

  • pee in a bottle or bucket.

banana island. fasting just saps your strength unless you got a fever. try and eat before sundown,go for a easy walk jog ride etc., get some fresh air and get that lymph system pumping. get a heart rate monitor to see how your body is dealing with it as our morning resting heart rate is a good indicator of what your body is doing.

if my heart rate is 70 i know my body needs more rest. if my heart rate is 37-42, i know im fly'n.
  • man, that sounds like some hazardous living conditions! have you cleaned the new place to your satisfaction? you're in NH still? guess it's getting cold there by now, but can you get some fresh air in your apartment? it's vital for health! just exchanging the air will be helpful: open all the windows and doors for 10-15 minutes once or twice a day. this will allow the fresh air in and the old air out but won't affect your heating bill significantly. it would also be good if you can leave a window or two in the bedroom cracked for fresh air while you sleep or rest. if you focus on all the other aspects of healthy living first, whether you fast or go to banana island you will see much greater results.

fasting is the quickest way to allow the body to restore balance. it is best to rest completely and drink plenty of pure water. this would mean no work or social activity, and ideally you would just lie down with your eyes closed and rest (but drink frequently) until you are feeling better and are ready to start eating again. also, it's not for everyone, so if you choose to go that route, be cautious with it and have someone check in on you periodically. most reliable sources i know suggest no more than 2-3 days on your own. go easy on yourself when you return to eating and activity as well.

banana island will also free up a lot of energy for healing and seems like a good choice if you want to continue working and living somewhat of a 'normal' existence. be sure to drink plenty or water also. you may want to eat less than usual and rest as much as possible until the symptoms are gone, but you will be able to keep up your regular activities and maybe some gentle daily exercise if you choose. if you're not feeling just miserable, this is what i would suggest. make sure you take care of all the other factors of living healthfully and you will likely recover very quickly.

let us know what you decide and how it goes. hope you are over this very soon!
  • I don't know about the fast or banana island...I'm no expert. I fast periodically, especially when I wake up with a bit of a runny nose, or sore throat, just the hint of it will send me to fasting mode...day off, and sleep as much as I can and drink a bit of water.

What I'm about to suggest may gross you out, but I saw it on this board a few times...ingenious design at work ...peeing at night for boys is so simple...actually even for girls. Get a jar with a lid, a taller jar, and for girls a wider mouthed jar. Problem solved... and no one will notice...it's pure gold, and in the morning, chuck it with a bit of water rinse the jar, and you are set for the next night.
