Universal Housesitting...

How cool would this be? Creating a network here that connects people & especially rawries to housesits all over the world and in your neighbourhood....imagine how much money you would say on rent?! This is how Durianrider and I live and we save heaps!! So I need ideas on how to start this....Crabby just like the universal book swap...Ummm thinking... thoughts please :-))

  • Love this idea!!

  • what a great idea!!! I'm gonna look into this.. any tips are welcome! I see the latest post in this thread dates back to 2011...

  • do you still housesit occasionally?
  • I have a roommates, couchsurfing, house sitting category on the 811-friendly.net online directory, just for lfrv people. If it seems adequate, I can add a category just for house sitting seekers and offers. There is a map with all the listings to locate each one easily, and it's free to post there.
    • There is a possibility to add a listing for a house to sit or a housesitter on the www.811-friendly.net towards 80/10/10 oriented people.

  • We are planning on going back to Anchorage, Alaska to visit a very good friend of mine around May -June 2011 for about 3 weeks. If there are any fruity peeps that live around that area that wanted to 'house swap' for the period and come for a holiday the Perth Western Australia, I would be keen to get chatting with you.

Alternatively, anyone looking for a place to stay in WA, for around 2 weeks (June 20th - July 1st) this year, or next year when we go to AK> I am sure we can work something out. We have a doggy that would need some company and love, but that's pretty much it.
  • I went to housecarers.com but $40 is needed to activate full membership. Is there a site you could recommend?
    • I would really love to start doing this. This is a really wonderful idea.
  • how bout a database website in which everyone that is willing to participate enters their location and contact info. they can get plotted on a map like on findaspring.com. then when people want to visit, let's say, Istanbul, Turkey, they just type in Istanbul and see what residence support comes up. It can have a description of the accomodations.

eventually mabye there can be raw CO-OPs around the world? Somehow, I dont know how. Raw houses with 10 bedrooms each (like polygamy houses in Utah, ha ha). And people can come and go. But not live there permanently. Only th co-op house manager would be permanent. but he/she could travel too and switch with another manager form somewhere else. Like a time share.
Or a collection of Yurts on properties around the world- 2 huge yurt sleeping quarters, it could have a cushioned floor, everyone bunks down in bags. Then one yurt kitchen and one yurt common room for yoga or meditation or music jams.
  • There is lots of 'free for housesitter' agencies out there too
