Hi, I just moved back to the UK and I'm cycling everywhere... its a challenge to pick up much fruit at a time so I think a trailer is in need so i can get my bulk fruits and not have to make so many trips to the opposite end of town to school. Anyone offer any advice on general bike trailer buying - what kind, where to look, etc. something not too expensive preferably. ones i've seen online are rather that. Advice on ones in the UK would be splendid too!

Thanks so much, look forward to hearing your mighty magical responses.

Holi :)

  • do you ride in a city with it.? it looks really light, but do you find it bulky at all? and what about in bad weather... is it okay in strong winds and rains?

  • wow yes this is really interesting! its so much more beautiful and connected to make the things we wish to use.. i will consider it... but like lee, i may get a ready made trailor first so i can get in touch with how it needs to be made and how i can shape it how i like... though my building skills certainly need to be honed! this is great reference though, im very excited over it! this would be perfect for tropical living!
  • That's a really great idea dude.

Personally I'm still going to buy a pre-made bike trailer first but you have my brain going! I made myself a pair of sandals the other day and while my ability to craft leaves much to be desired I really enjoyed the process.

    Thanks for the link!

  • that looks similar to the cheaper one i found on ebay - these new ones are suuuuper expensive - 350 euro eeek
  • i did used to have a large rack fixed on, where i put fruit and carried my portfolio, but i found it very heavy and awkward to ride with and maneuver the bike around. thats why i wanted to try a trailer, thought maybe it would be easier to attach and dettach etc.
  • wow... gosh i would love to come to the netherlands! hmm... are they cheap over there? i dont have so much time now im in school though, and gotta get the load ups of fruit flowing!
  • Hiya Holi, I've had a little look around myself and this seems like a decent one - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Folded-Luggage-Utility-Cargo-Trailer/dp/B00...

let me know if you find any better, I'll be getting one myself soon (most likely this 1 so far!)

    • well i did find this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Children-Luggage-Cargo-Bicycle-Bike-Trail... cheaper and looks like the same thing! and also this, which seems more along the lines of bob trailer (which harley seems to recommend) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-CARGO-Bicycle-Bike-Trailer-Single-Whe...

it doesnt say what brands these beasts on wheels are, so i dont know how good quality they are - its pretty important if we are lugging large loads of fruit around city roads that they dont break! the first looks really wide, bulky and heavy compared to the second.. and its strange the joining piece is only on one side... but what do i know about things like that?

im going to first see if some handy folk could rig one up for me, otherwise i'll probabally go for one of these.. get back to me with what you think is best...

      • I think the 1st link you posted is the same as mine at £79.99 with free PnP. The ebay link is £57.50 with PnP at £9.99 so £67.49.

Personally I don't like to look of the 2nd 1, it's lighter though which I guess is a plus but it can only hold up to 35kg so I could only get 1 box of 18kg bananas in ;)

Trying to find a decent local bike shop to get a few parts and I'll be getting 1 from the 1st link you posted, thanks Holi! :-)
