  • Yes you can! I've been doing Core Strength Vinyasa Yoga by Sadie Nardini for almost two years, and I can assure you from my personal experience yoga does make you toned, although you will have to break a sweat for that. I personally recommend HIIT yoga, I've been doing 30-40 minute yoga HIIT workouts as well as some really simple yoga workouts every other day and I have visible abs, toned legs and arms (you can find free videos on Sadie's YouTube channel, those are the ones I do). I'm not sure 'regular yoga' without some more intense yoga exercises like HIIT would give the same results.

  • There are many kinds of yoga, and some are pretty intense and strength building such as vinyasa, power vinyasa, ashtanga, and rocket. It's very possible if you can be consistent with your practice.

    But yeah, working out just to work out is pretty boring. You can also try finding more fun things to do such as aerial silks, acro yoga, climbing, and the like; they definitely will tone you as well and won't feel like exercise.

  • sleeping on a mattress is extremely unnatural and unhealthy

    we slept on mattresses, waterbeds and airbeds. the latter was the best of these three. after that, we went floor bound sleeping on woodchips and after that old blankets.

    now we are still on the floor on exercise mats - hard rubber not tatami mats as the japanese sometimes use for both exercise and bedding. our floor is ceramic tile, so the tough exercise mats provide some cushioning - though my son has actually found it fine to sleep right on the tiles too.

    there is a futon in the bedroom, but only one of the cats seem to like it - and only sometimes. he usually prefers the floor. one of the other cats likes to sleep on the hardwood shelf above the bed.

    so there is likely some real merit in doing away with cushy beds.
