How many calories?!

Hello all - I have a question!

Recommended intake for women is 2500cal at least? I'm averaging a bit over 3000cal per day... On days when I do my physical job, and weight training, and my evening run, I'm easily burning way over 1000cal (according to cronometer's slightly vague exercise thingy). The deficeit essentially takes me back down to having less than 2000cal in my body. Should I be eating enough that even with hard training burning off a lot, my base calories should be an untouched 2500? This would push me up to at least 4000cal per day.

How do you guys approach your fuel requirements?

  • I hit 2500 after my workout. I usually consume 3000 then burn at least 500 off at the gym.
    • There is always an element of individuality when working with a number that is supposed to mean something to a body.

An under carbed body will slow you down, dehydrated body will trick you, training a tired body will hurt you.

       Sleep will repair you ,

       water will revive you,

real hunger will entice you to eat,

acquiring mindfulness of your bodies needs instead of going by numbers is a far better lifestyle choice.

  • Hi Byron,

    Thanks for your reply.

2000 cals is definitely not enough for me. You very lean and fit right now yeah? Though I do have quite a bit of muscle, I am quite chubby and still working on my cardio vascular fitness. :) Your body is probably functioning more efficiently than mine is at this stage. Compared to the consumption other 30badders are logging, your intake seems a lot lower than the usual for the guys? How long have you been eating this way and working out at the level you do?

Do you track your cal expenditure too? According to cronometer, my last busy work + workout day burned 2100 cals, (though I am dubious about the accuracy of cronometers expediture figures)...I've done the 811 sums and that tells me I need 3400cals min a day. 3400-2100= 1300 left over for all the basic body functions plus muscle building/repair etc.

It's probably an entirely individual thing and I should just keep on with the trial and error approach until I hit the magic number, but I'm a bit tired of errors and I'm looking for further insight into doing this as efficiently as possible! So far the cals and weight are inching up but the butt is inching down, so I don't think I'm going too far wrong :/

    cheers, Lucid :)

I should add that this is not a problem, it's just time consuming and a lot of food! (I'm only 5'3, and my stomach is probably not that big). If the general consensus is that I'd see improvements in stamina etc than I'll keep inching the calories up.
