I was hoping to get some more activity happening in the group but I do not seem to be able to spark off a topic that carries.

What i love about the internet is that it enable like minded people to connect from all area of the world.

so it would be awesome to see here some race reports, race venues, raw vegan sporting success, equipment checks, competition results.

Hey I make no excuses I am a competitive man and I love being up at the pointy end of a race, I have been a National and state title holder in two different sports.
I have represented Australia as an age group athlete, and at the age of 90 I want to be the world title holder for 5k, which at the present time is 31:25.45 held by  GordonPorteous.

He passed away in 2004  the scottsman left an amazing legacy

He won 23 World and European age group medals, including the marathon, in 2hrs.51min aged 60, at the first ever WorldVeterans Track & Field, Toronto in 1975. He remained unbeaten overthis classic distance by any one of his own age. He returned home fromthe World Championships in New Zealand in 1981 with four gold medals. Hecurrently holds the following records:

  • World M90-94 5,000m in 31.25.45
  • World M90-94 10,000m in 69.26.92sec
  • European records as above, plus the M85-89 5000m
  • British 1500m records from aged 80 through to age 93
  • British M80-84 3000m Indoor.
I do not know what lifestyle and diet Gordon adhered to but I will be be setting the record as a bare foot raw food lifestyle practitioner.

SO what is your  BHAG  ( Big Hairy Audacious Goals ) for your sporting life.

Brag a little and post your times for events and distances, or put out the intent, and set a target, post a photo of nice body.... of water, you swim in or other favorite pastimes.

How long you have been raw and any improvements you have noted to your athletic ability

Look forward to seeing the replies, hey !! especially you climbing freaks how the heck you manage to hang upside down like a bat on those rocks is amazing my only attempt at hanging by a rope was damn scary  http://bit.ly/cSmzC1

  • jenuine1, how about cycling instead of jumping? it seems more gentle for an injury. the ballistic stuff is intense on muscles.
  • Well, my goal was to complete 2 marathons and work toward an ultra by next year, but I injured myself (pulled my gracilis muscle in my thigh) three weeks before this past marathon. I've been benching it since then, but keep up with jumprope and some machines and lifting to try and keep fit.

Any advice on healing my leg? its still sore, but i'm going NUTS here! Also, I was wondering how long before/after you guys run do you eat? I work, so i'm working out/running after 6pm-8pm and this puts me at a 9:30-10p dinner. Then I go to bed stuffed. ugh.
    • Hi Jenuine1

Sorry I can not help you with any real advice on healing your injury, except by way of sharing that I had a similar type of injury which responded well to acupuncture with an electrical pulse attached to the needles some what like a tense machine does.

I found I was able to water run while I had the injury which helped my going nuts :-(

As for eating, depends on what training I am doing, I do not often train that late except for Thursday night when I do my track workout. If it makes sense, I try not to get to hungry, I make a point of being well hydrated and topped up. So if for example I know on Thursday I will start at 7pm and be finished at 8pm I will make sure I have eaten really well in the later part of the afternoon. This enables me to have a fruit based top up that digests easily. I have found you have to be a bit more prepared when you are a raw food athlete.

I hope you get over your injury and keep going towards your goals these brick walls we hit at time I choose to see as something to get over than to stop me
