Starting Today - Reset Button

I've been eating 8-1-1 low fat, high carb, high calorie raw vegan (phew what a  mouthful!) off and on since the end of April 2012 now.

I've been struggling for various reasons, mostly affording enough fruit and having enough RIPE fruit - so I would start eating my huge salad at night with rice. I've not strayed from vegan of course but I've definitely had periods of eating higher fat. Nuts really, are my vice. 

I feel MISERABLE. I'm always stressing about food and what to eat or oh is that too much fat or thinking non stop about cooked foods.. I do not want this in my life! It's like I'm developing an eating disorder or something.

I need to be on my A game. (personal life upheavals and challenges, plus being a single parent and on welfare trying to find work).

I saw a ton of ripe bananas at the store yesterday and bought them all. I'll use dates as my backup if I don't have ripe bananas. 

Of course I had a really senseless cooked binge last night so I feel like crap today.

I've been curious to try banana island for awhile.. so we'll see how long I go. A week maybe? Depends I guess. 

I'm reading all around this site and am a *little* confused. Is it JUST bananas and nothing else? Lots of people talk about green smoothies and eating greens with their bananas and such. 

So to start off today I'm working my way through my ripe banana stash... It's 9am and I stopped eating around 8pm last night, high fat cooked vegan food - I contemplated water fasting until this evening but don't want to set myself up to binge again tonight because I didn't eat all day. I'm not experienced with fasting. 

Anyway... I'll start another thread tonight with how today went and update that one each day or something. Excited to feel better that's for certain!!

    Feel a lot better than I did this morning.

    I ate 20 bananas and now am eating a 340g container of medjool dates because I ate all my ripe bananas. So I wasn't super prepared...

    Ok well I just finished those dates, there were 19 of them. 

    And NOW I'm wanting to eat something else... the cooked food calls. I have no other ripe fruit so I'm going to take a shower and make tea and try to go to bed early.

    First you need to relax, it's going to be ok, we all struggled in this journey!

    Do not do a water fast now! You have starved yourself already, if you fast now, you will go nuts.

    Banana island is a brilliant way to get back on track! Commit yourself to eat juicy and sweet bananas for a week.
    Start today! But here's the deal, NEVER UNDEREAT! Eat at LEAST 2500 calories a day, being a single mum, you might need more. Blend the bananas up into a nice smoothie, that way, you can consume more. Pulse blend them, it tastes better!

    The next thing to do is: to buy the book 80-10-10! Read it, watch durianriders' and freelee's videos and enjoy all the bananas you care for! But be prepared, detox symptoms might show up. So CARB UP!

      I have had only 3 bananas so far, and I feel VERY unwell. I have this uncomfortable bloat thing happening and am drinking tons of water hoping to move things along my digestive tract but so far I'm just peeing it all out again. 

      If I blend bananas up, should I add lots of water, or just enough to get it blending, so it's straight banana? I'll definitely try that - 

    • The bloating is normal as the cooked food you had will remain in your GI track for about 3-4 days. If you eat fruit now, it will sit on top and the entire mixture will create bloating. Hang in there, it will regulate itself!

      For the smoothie, I put enough water in so it blends nicely and I just like the mousse like consistency!

      Now to the water. Drink 32oz of water upon rising. Then drink about 20min before each meal and wait about another 20min to drink again, your body needs its digestive acids undiluted! But being dehydrated is worse than having digestive problems!

      Always be well hydrated!
    • Ew 3-4 days? That is quite disgusting.. I think that disuades me from cooked food more than anything else I've heard or read yet!

      I'm doing good with at least 1 L of water upon rising, but drinking 20 mins before meals isn't something I've done... I don't have set meal times.. I've been more of an eat when I feel hungry or when I have the time.

      So far today, its 3 pm now... I've eaten 1.5 kg of bananas... the ripe ones I bought yesterday were 2 kg total and there are about 6 left... Once I eat all those I only have dates if I'm still hungry later.

      I'll be making this a banana island, with dates as a back up addition, because they are easy to get and I don't need to wait for them to ripen. I saw 1 lb of organic medjools for 4.99 at a store the other day, I'll get a bunch of those tubs tomorrow and be prepared just in case :)

      I feel better than earlier, hungry, thirsty despite drinking a ton of water and peeing like 10 times today already.. :)
