First Week, Whats on the Menu?!?!

So this is my first week fully HCRV. I have been eating mostly bananas, dates, mangoes, grapes for breakfast and lunch and doing salads for dinner. I'm only getting about 10g fat and 30g protein for 3000 calories though which is about 5% each, I feel this is lacking (I work out 5 days a week too).

My first two meals are mono meals of the above fruit. Bananas are the easiest and cheapest to get a hold of (I'm in Northern Illinois, US). I like bananas and red thompson grapes, they get most my cals in quick.

My question is what would be a good a basic 3 meal day to get all the nutrients I need? I've searched all over the site and sifted through countless forum topics but haven't found anything clearly outlining this. I am committed to this lifestyle and want to make a clean transition in, but I know I need to make sure I'm getting enough in me for that to happen.

Any suggestions on where to find more info, what are your typical meals in a day that are providing a full nutrient set? (I order the 80-10-10 book, waiting for it to start the read!)

  • Thanks for the input!

I tried blending greens once, but my current blender isnt up to the task, so I just stick to eating a salad lol. What I am eating gives me roughly a 90/5/5 intake which I heard is better as well. I think the mono meals help with the transition, and it is still new to me so I don't have to add anything to change it up yet.

Toni I am obviously not an expert, but I read somewhere that kale and adult spinach are cruciferous veggies and shouldn't be eaten...they said baby spinach was ok.

The eating of the salad does take me wayyy too long as well. I am looking at investing in a vitamix blender, something with enough guts to properly blend those greens!

I am almost at the end of my first week and I have adhered to the above stringently. I feel very well and haven't experienced the detox symptoms my friends who are doing this with me have. Just a lil brain fog every now and then.

    • Hey, just FYI if you end up looking into a higher grade blender, first off do your research (Vitamix isn't the only high speed option)! Secondly, look on websites like Amazon and especially QVC because they're much cheaper than just buying on the brand's website.

    • Thnx for the heads up. I have been looking around quite a bit. I found that you can purchase a re-manufactured unit directly from vitamix for almost 100 bucks less than the same model on amazon. It comes with a 5 year warranty standard instead of 7, but you can buy an 8 year for and extra 45 i think it was. (Vitamix 5200 series, 320 bucks) I think that will be my route.

Still looking though. I haven't seen a comparable quality unit for that price though...any suggestions?

    • Wow, $320 is quite a good deal. This is the one I bought a few months ago, though: http://www.qvc.com/Blendtec-90-oz.-Total-Blender-wWildSide-Jar,-Spo...
It's great quality, and I haven't had any problems with it. Number one plus for me is that it's really easy to clean because of its shape.

    • besides ease of cleaning, anything about it that you really like (that you would recommend?)

I'm still on the fence but thats just because its a large purchase. it seems everyone is more or less happy with whatever they bought. I am leaning towards the vitamix though

  • Hi Luigi and Toni,

It is my first week too! For my first two days, I had 10 bananas (1/2 blended with cherries) the other eaten as is. For lunch I blended 8 oranges with frozen pineapple. For dinner I ate a salad in a huge serving bowl with a red pepper, a cucumber, 2 stalks celery with a dressing a made using a tomato, 1/2 zucchini, and an orange. The salad takes me about an hour or so to eat!
Right now I am striving for about 2200 fruit calories so since the veggies don't really contain many. I like the idea of an extra smoothie for or before dinner to help boost my calorie intake.

  • I might not be the best person to answer your question because I'm also very new to 811 and have plenty of my own questions. I've only just started reading the book but it sounds to me like what you're doing is great. Have you tried making a smoothie for your dinner salad. I find that I can cram a ton of spinach and kale into a smoothie when I add in some fresh squeezed lemon, a banana, and some blueberries. If its still too tart, you can add a couple medjool dates. Anyhow, adding the raw spinach and kale to my all fruit diet seems to be keeping me around 90/5/5 and I feel better than ever! Best of luck to you. I'm sure you will get lots of great feedback on your question. Everyone is so helpful and supportive here!
