Hey again everyone! It's been a while since I've been back here and I've come back in the quest for greater knowledge if you would be so kind as to helping as it would seem, many of us with this.

On Friday, I noticed a very acute reaction to the food I ate for breakfast that day. I ate 10 2.5" whole round oranges. (roughly 650 calories worth). It made me feel incredibly lethargic, and so much so I could have gone to sleep on the dirty cold floor of my work truck. I resisted, and eventually the feeling waned slightly.

This feeling does not always happen, such as for instance this morning after I ate 12 Large medjoule dates and some homemade bread with organic apricot spread. I went for an 1.5hr long run/walk after that and I was stoked and motoring for it!

-My sleep regimen is usually 7-8 hours of good solid sleep until it's about time to wake up where I'll usually have a dream just before waking up and I often wake up just before my alarm is about to go off.

-I seldom drink coffee now for the last 3 months and if I do it's now a decaf which as far as I am aware still contains a bit of caffeine but much less at least and I save that for an after breakfast break closer to lunch time.

-My pee is clear like on that scale, probably setting 2 or 3 from the top. I consume minimum 4 liters of clear water even on the coldest of Ottawa winter days.

-I've been eating 5 out of 7 days of the week; "raw till 4" primarily consisting of bananas, apples, pears and oranges.

-Apples and pears I find will really bring this feeling about more strongly than other fruits thus far such as watermelon, mangos, and kiwis.

-A doctor sent me for a glucose tolerance test a while back after experiencing this from eating just any breakfast I would eat.

I'm told this test is primarily for women that are pregnant to test for pregnancy type diabetes or anyone experiencing diabetic like symptoms.

My fasting blood sugar was as per 4 tests I've done from spring to fall of last year, was consistently 4.8 mmol/L.

When I did the test, they first take a sample of your blood after fasting. After that, they have you drink a 40mg solution of maltodextrin-water. (corn-sugar and water), and sit still for exactly 2 hours then take another blood test.

I was nearly falling asleep by the end and my blood-surgar tested to 2.1mmol/L.

Fasting normal range here in Canada is 3.6mmol/L to 6.0, and the testing range is 3.6-7.7.

So I went hypoglycemic!

My doctor suggested that I eat more protein for breakfast instead such as egg whites or beans and lentils as she believed that I am simply just glucose sensitive. She felt also that no further testing was required and that I just try what she suggested. >:(

What do ya think everyone? Anyone know?

  • what is your daily fat intake?

ANY excess fat on a high carb diet will cause issues with cellular uptake of sugar, even if you ate the fatty food a day earlier. It may take some time (weeks in my case) to get all the fat out of your cells/blood so give it time.

fyi; I was having this same issue when I first when high carb and I was having major issue I thought something was wrong, went to a 'specialist' and the endocrinologist told me the same thing... eat more protein etc I was pre-diabetic etc. She was completely wrong. The excess protein made me feel like crap and after doing my own research I found out I was eating TOO much fat. Coconut oil, olive oil, nuts, seeds etc.

You will always hear people preach low fat on this lifestyle because fat and sugar don't mix well in your body.

After cutting all excess fat out I no longer have these issues, it's been about 2 years since.

Keep fat under 10% daily caloric intake and you will be good to go.

Use cronometer to track your calories and macros.

    •  I am for sure keeping my fat intake below every single day, 15% at least for the last 4 months. Most of my fat comes from the fruit I'm eating and if I Indulge in putting some soy milk in the occasional banana smoothie which is very infrequent.

I usually eat about 3500 cal to 4000 according to the cronometer. I have been avoiding all direct fat sources and stay away from cooking with oil for my cooked foods. I'm almost not getting enough protein every day neither according to the meter. Just a couple of the targets only go as high as 95% the rest go over 100%.

A typical day for me is 3 to 4 snack type fruits, 20-30 bananas, no coffee, then a large low fat cooked starchy meal for dinner and 4 to 6 liters of water.

I just had 2 kiwis and a couple of Mangos just right now. And I feel great! I'm gonna go for a walk with the dog in the minus freaking 17' C cold now! :P

A theory I read from previous posts suggested that the acid load may have something to do with our adrenal glands having to produce a hormone to deal with the acid or potassium. However, it seems it would more likely be accompanied by pain in the abdominal area which I certainly am not experiencing when this happens or ever.

I'm going to keep raw all day today with fresh sweet fruits, then tomorrow morning I'll attack another 10 oranges and see if I get the same result.

      Thanks Scotty!
