Itchy Spotty Rash! Argh! Help...

So I have been Vegan since May this year, not very long I know. I've never eaten Diary or Gluten due to allergies and started out with Raw til4. I've done a couple of fully 100% raw months and most weeks I will have a 50/50 split between the two ways of eating on this lifestyle.

I'm 30 years old, female, and never been spotty in my life. Even as a teenager my skin has always been clear. I used to suffer from psoriasis and still sometimes get breakouts every now and again on my back or neck if I'm stressed or run down, but nowhere near as bad as when I was a kid.

However...This last month I am troubled by a persistent spotty rash on my chest and all down my shoulders and back. It's so itchy and really irritating and even worse when I get out of the shower! Arrhh! It almost feels like the heat/sugar lumps you get if you eat anything synthetically sweet?!

Given that I've not been Vegan for very long, I was wondering what people's take on it was; Is it toxins finally coming out? Is it too much sebum production due to insulin? Is it completely unrelated to my diet?

I drink about 2 litres of water a day, mostly have fruit for breakfast and lunch and then a big salad or cooked vegan low fat meal for my dinner. I rarely eat nuts and never avocado etc. I walk everyday outside. Sometimes at weekends I have 2 cooked vegan low fat meals a day but I have been doing that since I started this lifestyle so I'm not sure why that would start to effect anything now?

I'd be really glad to hear any advise or experiences from people as I'm not used to this and It's driving me crazy with itchiness. It doesn't look or feel like acne and I was considering going to the doc's to get it checked out but wanted to see what my fruity friends thought first! :)

Thanks all

  • During summer you are getting alot of vitamin D from being out in the sun, but come winter levels drop off and our body uses up the last of it's stores causing all sorts of problems.  My attitude goes from perfect to crazy-lady even when carbed up and next I see skin things; I have wonderfully perfect skin during the summer.

Supplementing with vitamin D needs magnesium as well - so eat up!  I've noticed when I do take the vitamin life can be beautiful even on a horribly cloudy, cold, miserable week!

Vitamin D is also one of the ingredients in skin medications.  I'd also drink more water, 2 liters is not enough for someone eating cooked.  I drink a minimum of 4 liters and do the absolute best with 5-6 liters.

Hope you heal quickly and feel better!

  • Same thing happened to me recently. After 8 months of RT4. I put coconut oil on it and keeps it at bay and helps with the healing. Also just started doing banana Island and that's really helping! Something you might want to consider. Banana Island and is great for skin! I'm on day 5 of banana island and it's looking better every day. Almost gone now.

    Hope that helps! :-)

    • Hey Becca, ah good to know other people are experiencing similar symptoms too. I'll try the coconut oil tonight :)

  • It is detox. A good thing! Stay on course. Mine was rash as well. The skin is often called the 'third kidney'. I like to call this journey a 'healing crisis' b/c you are healing!! More info..
A healing crisis occurs when we create a alkaline environment in the body and accumulated toxins can start to be eliminated mainly through the kidneys, colon and skin It is an opportunity the body takes to purge itself of accumulated wastes, acid, toxins, and obstructions in aim of proper, homeostatic cellular function. As the body begins to clean its lymphatic system, the sinus cavities, lungs, and most other body tissues will become active in the cleansing process. Sometimes is take months for the body to have a healing crises response during the detoxification process.
Through this process your cells will increase function and will start your body onto the path of regeneration. Most healing crises are simple with cold and flu like symptoms Most of the time you will begin to see a lot of mucus being discharged from the body as well. Congestion is acidic and can cause inflammation and bleeding of tissue so there can be blood in mucus and stools. The mucus can be clear, yellow, green, or even brown or black. This is just mucus and toxins in the tissues trying to get out.
The healing crisis can last a couple of hours to a couple of days but can sometimes last for a couple of weeks. Old injuries also can come back when they have not fully healed when the trauma took place. There is two times you feel a symptom, one when you create it and two when you eliminate it. The body will eliminate through any orifice that will be beneficial to it, including skin, ears, nose, mouth, kidneys, and bowels. They can be very painful sometimes when other times not painful. Rest is very important during the healing crises because the person needs that energy being created from the alkaline environment to heal and cleanse there self.
There is an also emotional healing crisis as well and the detoxification process can bring up these past emotions to be released. Fevers are common during this process and you almost never want to break a fever during healing crises, only in extreme cases where they feel it’s too much. It is also common for the person to lose weight. Rashes and itching can occur, depression or anxiety, dizziness, tumors popping out, severe fatigue, loss of hearing or sight, mental confusion and even teeth becoming loose. These symptoms range from mild to strong and it differs from each person and what they will go through.

    • Wow brilliant! Thank you :) Yeh it looks kind of like a red irritation on my skin and then little white spots appear at different times of the day. Very itchy and irritating! I will persevere though and will aim to drink more water too as hopefully that will help speed things up :) It's kind of reassuring to know that my body is getting rid of things this many months into this lifestyle though as for a while I thought I had stagnated, as if my body just wasn't playing ball haha but now I feel like ' Yeey go body! Sorry I ever doubted you' :D
