Tiredness with this lifestyle

Hi everyone :)

Just wanted to see what peoples take on being tired was? If anyone has experienced this when starting this lifestyle or with it continuing on?

I only started eating this way at the end of May so as you can imagine I'm still learning and figuring stuff out about my body. I've seen loads of benefits already; clearer skin, less rosacea, whiter eyes, my belly bloating has gone down after the first few weeks. I am thoroughly satisfied with this way of eating, more so than I have ever been on any other diet. One thing that I can't seem to shake though is tiredness.

I am eating about 2500cals a day, between 80-90% from carbs, eating mostly dates and bananas for breakfast, another type of fruit for lunch and then a big salad with either potatoes or steamed butternut squash for my evening meal. I am usually fine throughout the day but in the evening after I have eaten, I am getting so fatigued I haven't been able to anything afterwards. I really want to start to do more exercise in the evening but I am finding that I am eating and then going bed within an hour because I feel like I have no energy.

In the first few weeks I thought this just might have been my body getting used to a different way of eating (after coming from a high paleo diet) but it seems to be continuing. Did anyone else experience this? Do you think it is just because my body isn't used to this many carbs at the moment or is it something I'm doing wrong?

Thanks for your help guys! Really appreciate it :)

  • yeah, i felt quite tired in the beginning too...wellll, that's not entirely true...i would have breakfast then hang around for a few minutes and suddenly feel SO energetic like i HAD to get out and run, and then maybe like the day after i would feel very tired like i just wanted to lie down. SLEEP plenty, DRINK plenty (3+ liters), be easy on yourself. and congrats on making a great decision for your health :)

  • Hi,

I've experienced the same thing in the past. I always attributed it to stimulate withdrawl. As I geave up coffee and candy my body needed to recalibrate to what normal energy feels like. I also found I need to eat a lot more calories, 2500 wouldn't be enough for me. I would be tired with that much too. Even on days i had to force calories in with smoothies was better because then I wouldn't be tired and have more energy. some days I could eat over 4000 which is a lot. So maybe try adding in a few more, maybe another small fruit meal before dinner of about 500 cal? Also I agree with checking crono meter to make sure your getting a wide enough variety of veggies to get all your nutrients. Hope this helps.

    Cheers.

    • Hey thanks for the tips. I just started doing banana smoothies in the mornings to make sure I can get enough calories in before I start work, as even though I prefer to eat them whole, I don't feel like I'm at the stage yet where I can just eat 10 bananas whole in one sitting haha My tum still bloats after I have the smoothies at the moment but I think that's just because my body isn't used to it yet. I do find that when i'm driving home, between 5 and 6pm I snack on organic dates and bananas for energy and then eat my evening meal at around 8pm. Would you say that's maybe too late to eat?

  • Hi Gwen
I'm about the same stage as you, 5 weeks in, i was eating pretty clean before hand, with only occasional animal products. initially I had loads of energy, then in this last few weeks I have noticed my energy drop significantly. Also I have a break out of Acne and eczema, which I haven't had since I gave up dairy a year ago. This is frustrating me, but I'm going to continue.

I think it's takes 6-12 months to detox and maybe even longer. Are you tracking your nutrition on the cron o metre?

Are you drinking plenty of water?

Keep up the good work and don't give up, I'm sure your detoxing like me, which takes time, but will be so worth it. Rest up and take care of yourself. X
    • Ahh I feel for you there with the skin issues. I suffer from psoriasis and get bouts of it throughout the year. I am drinking way more water than I used to...which was basically no water! haha I am drinking about 2 litres and track all my nutrition online I am going to keep on going and see if it improves :)
