The Apostle Paul a vegetarian/vegan?

1 Corinthians 8:13

Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.

Romans 14:15

Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

15 But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died.

Romans 14:21

Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

21 It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.

Anybody else suspect that Paul might have been a vegetarian/vegan from the above scriptures... or is this just my fantasy because Paul is my hero!

  • Brother,

the only thing that could offend another christian was something that could affect their salvation. Romans and Corinthians were strong (like most Christians of today) the original Christians were the weak brothers. Those Christians were the ones that were being fed to lions and tortured in the arena. They were a great example for other humans on how to behave toward others and to the world in general, but they were adamant that veganism was part of their salvation and for others to say that they were following the original way they would have to be vegan. This statement offended the normal/strong Romans so much that they put those weak people (ones that refused to kill) to death. Paul wanted to live but had to get the message out so he used psychology, saying that we can't cause our weak brothers and sisters at 30bad who believe that their salvation (and actually the worlds salvation) depends on their not killing or being a party to killing, and to lose their salvation that they believe depends on that. He essentially said you are all saved no matter what, but if you believe, that if you eat flesh, you are not, then you are not. He just asked Romans never to eat flesh in their weak 30badders presence lest they fall. he went on to say that he would never eat flesh. a little later on he said that Jesus never pleased himself, meaning that he never ate flesh. He goes on to to say that the weak Christians get the good gifts of the spirit. I am attaching my book let me know what you think.

  • I agree with Krissy, Paul was speaking of things that offend weaker Christians.

    As he continues,

"For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

"For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men.

"Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another."

    Romans 14:17-19

I think it is good to read the whole passage and most likely the chapters on either side of it for complete context.  When in doubt, go to God:

"For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding."

    Proverbs 2:6

  • lol noo he wasn't.  Well he could have been but this passage is not actually saying he is.  It's just saying in general terms.  It's saying if anyone be grieved with thy (your) meat, then don't destroy him with it.

    Sorry bud
