Looking for wholesale fruit shops

Hello everyone, I live in the UK (England) and am looking for a way to spend less on the food I eat. I have really grown to like canned fruit like lychee and jack fruit, but at 2 Pounds a can, things can get quite expensive. I am looking to buy canned- and dried fruit in larger quantities at wholesale prices. Does anyone know of any companies in England that do sell to persons (as opposed to restaurants/shops)?

I really love the dried mango that Sainsbury's sell but the packets are just too small ;).

  • Hi !

I am leaving in London and I get amazing deals in small fruit corner shops! A box of bananas is around 10 - 12 pounds and I am talking about 18 kg! You might be able to find these type of shops next to where you live. (Last ear I lived in Durham and we had a couple of them with very good prices)

However most of the times these shops are non organic and I can clearly see the difference. Non organic bananas taste and even ripe differently so recently Ive started buying from https://www.organicdeliverycompany.co.uk. Its more expensive, Im paying £21 pound for the box of bananas, but the deliver to your doorstep with no additional charge and have a good deals on veggies and organic rice/pastas.

Unfortunately they deliver only to Great London

I hope it will be helpful, good luck !

  • Hi there

Firstly, tinned fruit isn't normally what I'd call a staple. In my case it would be the second to last option. Can I ask why you eat tinned fruit as opposed to fresh fruit? If you want tropical fruit, perhaps you should look at moving to a tropical place?

I live in Liverpool (and have lived in Manchester recently too). The North West is well situated by 2 great wholesale fruit and veg markets. My advice is to find a wholesale market close to you and call them up before you go to see if they have cheap fruit that fits into your budget.

The alternative is to contact a local fruit n veg shop and ask them if you can buy wholesale from them. Fresh is so much better than canned or dried. Dried fruit dries you, so you need to drink water or soak the fruit first.

If you are adamant that you want to eat dried foods, then there is a company called Suma who do a lot of produce.

Again this is my recommendation (and experience) that you shouldn't rely on dried fruits. I hope I have helped!

    • Some fruits aren't available fresh here or are incredibly expensive. I prefer fresh fruit over canned but it's not always an option for any type of fruit.

      Thanks for your tips!
