Dates..yes or no?

I am new to this way of eating even though I come from a high carb vegan way of eating. I still have a hard time believing you can eat the amount of calories freelea is recommending and still loose weight. I am trying it but to tell you the truth it scares to to death as I am already up 15lbs (not from this diet) and am not willing to go up any further. My question is how are people doing eating dates if they are trying to loose weight? I love them and every time I start eating them I feel like it takes so many to satisfy me. I had 20 today. Although I can say I am satisfied and don't want anymore now...lol Just wondering if you should avoid them when you are trying to loose weight?

  • Thanks for all the replies! I guess dates and dried fruit are more a personal thing. For me dates work best in my smoothies because i eat too many of them and they don't fill me up. Dried fruit does the same thing to me so I don't eat any but I say whatever works. ;) i was just wondering eats a lot of them and loses weight? I think if I didn't want to lose weight I would feel better aboout eating them. Maybe not the right attitude and i did have 10 today and am not beating myself up or anything. Just saying 10 oranges or apples would have made me feel stuffed while 10 dates didn't do much.
  • I totally understand where you are coming from! I am new to this life style too and 15 dates is around 700-something calories! I am having a hard time shifting my mind that it is okay to eat like that because I am so used to calorie restriction. I love dates too, but I feel like I get more bang for my proverbial buck, so to speak, with bananas... more filling, less calories... but again, I know that is the wrong way to think with this lifestyle.

I guess it's just going to take some time... but, your not alone!

    :)
