How many calories should I get?

Hey guys!I was wondering. It's hard for me to get past 2000 calories even on a binge, and I can't see myself getting past 1700 calories a day, or even making it to 1500! I mean, I want to assume that medium/large sized bananas/apples/oranges/tomatoes/so on all have 100 calories a piece, but I don't think that's right...Anyhow, I'm 160 cm / 5'3", and if I'm anything like all the women in my family, I'll get shorter if I lose weight. My Mom recently lost 100 lbs and she went from 5'6" to 5'2" in that time (6 months-ish). I mean, I get that she's old and not eating right and basically starving herself silly, but still!I'm not very active, but I plan to start 100 squats and 100 jumping jacks a day, which is... fairly little, at my rate of 2 JJ's a second and 1 squat per second.I want to start using an elliptical as well.I mean, I've been having smoothies for breakfast that (according to my faulty cal counting) are about 400 cals a piece. I can't eat much at one time (of anything) or I tend to get abdominal migraines, so I was thinking that spreading my food throughout the day would be easier. Also, I'm worried about getting a good spread of nutrients? I mean, currently at home I have:BananasCarrotsJalapenos (for a raw picante dip)PearsApplesOrangesKaleCeleryTomatoesAvocadosBerriesRaw AlmondsChia SeedsThat doesn't seem very variety-filled to me

  • when i first started i could barely eat anything but after a couple of months i was able to eat more. after i got surgery, i was still eating 801010 and gained like 2 pounds cuz i was not able to exercise for six weeks. i've already lost the weight from not being able to workout (took a few weeks) and a little bit more from doing 30 mins HIIT exercise on my elliptical 3/4 times a weeks and doing 100 squats a day.

  • Hey Raini,

I know this is a relatively old post, but I was wondering if you're still HCRV and what developments you've had with respect to this issue?

I'm also a shorty, 5"0 and relatively new to the full raw side. I won't advocate calorie restriction, but the amounts for calories thrown about are quite large. Even in comparison to Douglas Graham's 811 recommendations. If I remember correctly, he suggested (as an estimate): goal weight in pounds x 10 = BMR PLUS at least 1/5 of that amount to be eaten (in addition) and burned through exercise. I find I'm comfortable at a slightly lower calorie intake than that. BUT for me my BMR then works out to between 900-1000 cals. Even with some exercise added (call it >1110), that's MUCH lower than the median values touted.

So what's been your progress? Are you managing to eat more comfortably? Weight progress? And please don't be shy if it's been less than perfect - it's good to know and I'm sometimes a 'two steps forward, one step backward' type myself.

    Nutrient wise, I meant.
