Seattle Produce Finds

The Town & Country chain (Shoreline Central Market & Ballard Market) have assorted varieties of melons on sale for 2.50/ea.  Sharlyn, Orange Honeydews, Crenshaws, Santa Claus, Hami, etc.  Some of them are huge.  We tasted a Sharlyn last night in Ballard and it was delicious.  Gotta know how to pick 'em tho--there were some overripe ones in the pile.

They also have Keitt mangoes in!  They are the big green ones that ime stay mostly green as they ripen.  When they are soft, they are delicious!!  I couldn't find any last year, but the year before, they were awesome!  They are $2/ea. right now.

Finding anything good?  Especially seeded watermelon?

  • Brad, I went to MM yesterday & all I saw were those med. size dark green watermelons--is that what you mean? The produce guys didn't know of the name "sugar baby" and said they didn't know of any other melons they had recently.
  • I just got one of those Yosemite melons at TJ's and it was good-tx! I also got a mini organic one that wasn't ripe and had no flavor.
  • Thanks Brad--I will have to get over to Madison for some of those watermelons! They are probably less expensive than throwing out a bunch of bad ones! Good to know about TJ's, too--I've been skeptical of theirs.
    • Fred meyers has really good organic red grapes right now for 1.48/lb I payed 2.99/lb for these same grapes at Pcc before I found em at freddies.
    • Thanks Nick--that's a good deal!
    • Yeah I bought a bunch of em yesterday at the newer fred meyers on 164th in lynnwood the others stores prolly have them too...hopefully :) I've been grapin out!
