moving to bay area... where is the best fruit?

i just posted this on the main forum but realized since this is a better place for it...

I am moving to the bay area in a couple weeks. i am looking at places to live around berkeley, and san leandro to walnut creek. does anyone know about farmers markets and good places to get local fresh produce in this area, anything i should keep in mind?

thanks!

  • wow such great responses! i love this website! thanks so much for your help everyone. will be in touch, i am sure!

  • I second Monterey Market. It's in Berkeley. Some people say it's expensive but if you buy the ripe fruit they put towards the front it's SO CHEAP. And the quality is great.

Also, I started a Fruitluck for the East Bay Area. You can join it here:

  • The Berkeley bowl!! DR said this was the best grocery store in the world when I met him at WFF. Lake Merritt farmers market is good. There are a bunch of good farmers markets. Alemeny, civic center, ferry building. I'm checking out the temescal one this weekend. Also come to a Fruitluck! It would be nice to meet you! www.meetup.com/fruitlucksf

  • I am new to the area but the Grand Lake farmers market Saturdays in Oakland is good. Chinatown in Oakland has some cheaper produce, berkeley bowl. I haven't been yet but Oakland and SF have wholesale produce markets
