  • Do compound exercises like squats, dead lifts, and such. YouTube for correct form and start light until you know your form is on point :). Watch how you can add shape and contour to your physique. Happy training!
  • Definitely focus on weight lifting and don't be afraid to lift heavy or do squats...and don't let the guys in the weight room intimidate you either!  Everyone was a beginner at one point or another :)  I have been lifting for a couple of years and have noticed great improvements in my physique.  Like with everything else, you just have to be patient and consistent to see progress.  Good luck!

  • for great strenght and skill work I can recommend Convict Conditioning!

personally, I do some additional weight training with dumbbells and I will get a barbell soon. I can see the changes and I wouldn't wanna miss the training :)

eat enough cals and push your limits!

    have fun!

    • So I am doing some convict conditioning research at it is looking amazing! Do you think I would in in over my head to try it? I can currently do only one pull up... I have a long long ways to go. What are your thoughts?
    • try it! I think it's a great base and it is really a program for everyone. you decide how much of it you want to do and you can work on each step for as long as you want. and for 'bigger' muscles you can just progressively add heavy weights.

I started each of the CC movements at step 1, even though some were not challenging. if I immediately reached the progress standard of reps, I continued with the next step right after or in my next session.

I think it's also a great way to mix up the work on weights. for example, when working on the one-legged squats, you could work on them one day and to increase the strength gains do regular squats with a barbell on the other day.

  • Hooray!! Just what we were looking for! :)
  • Hi Tia.  I'm a raw vegan  bodybuilder.  I compete in bb.  Do you have a gym membership?  One of the best ways to build muscle is to lift some weights.  Many girls are afraid to lift because they think they will get huge.  You gotta be taking stuff for that to happen.  I lift heavy weights, and it adds great contour for the physique:)

    • That's so wonderful! Im glad to find you lol. I will start lifting... I used to and enjoyed it a bit too. I do have a gym membership! Im a swimmer and have never actually been in the gym part... Any recommendations for what type of lifting exercises to do? Thank you!
  • My advice would be lifting heavy, as well as eating plenty. I lift weights at home and try to combine cross fit style work in it. If you continuously do it, you will be able to lift heavier. It can be addicting. The muscles will pop out best with strength training!

You can find videos on youtube on how tos, and tips.. And bodybuilding.com is a good place to look too. Learning proper form is vital.

Also..remember that alot of people into that push paleo and animal proteins so just ignore their nutrition information, its considerably "bro science."
    • And if youre happy with your body now and just want to see your muscles, its all about lowering your body fat..losing weight. Most call it "cutting."
