I am a 52 year old mom and grandmother. I love animals and want to do good things for my health and the planet, so being a vegan was always a goal. I went to Connecticut in 1984 to learn from Viktoras Kulvinskas. I feel like I did learn a lot, but I was always hungry and soon fell off the wagon when I returned to south Florida. For 30 years I wished I could be vegan, but could not. I felt like a failure for this and eventually developed a drinking problem that lasted for years. Recently, I discovered durianrider videos on youtube. I was struck by his straightforward style and everything he said had the "ring of truth" to it. So I kept watching. He kept hammering the point across that for a raw vegan diet to be successful, one must take in enough calories. Calories, calories, calories...CARB calories, that is!! I began to see that Harley was holding the missing puzzle piece!! All these years I had been unable to figure this out!! So, I began the diet. But so far only partial success. I feel a lot better, and the urge to drink is way less, but I'm not there yet... I just watched one of Freelee's videos and I can see clearly what I'm doing wrong. Not counting calories. So I'm probably undereating the fruit. No wonder I crave bean burritos, guacamole and corn chips, anything Mexican...plus cervasa!! So the plan is to go back to basics and do it right. I just feel so fortunate to have stumbled on to you two, I feel so grateful for you both. I also feel stupid because after listening to you both remind me over and over to count calories, and the other tips, I arrogantly didn't listen. Why? I honestly don't know. Hard-headed, I guess!!

My favourite books/movies/authors/pastimes are...

I am going to school at night for Massage Therapy. My only other pastime is watching Youtube vids on how to go raw vegan.

The Frugivore started this site to bring together frugivores across the Globe! Let us know what high fruit assistance do you need?

I feel so dumb for thinking that I would instinctively eat enough carb calories!! Even still, this first month hasn't been a total loss. Even doing it wrong, I still feel so much better, so I'm excited to see what happens when I actually do it properly...So just maybe some reassurance that I'm normal?

The Frugivore Diet is a fruit-based vegan internet community which promotes a high carb fruit based vegan lifestyle free of any animal products. • Hi Sara,

    Welcome!

Yup, being hard-headed, or stubborn (as I was for years when I insisted on being cooked vegan macrobiotic even though I had a raging soy allergy) is common to a lot of us here.  But, high carb raw vegan really does make sense, so I'm glad to kept on going and found Freelee and DR... and us here @ 30BaD.
