Bad Reaction to Corn Products

I have noticed since going vegan that organic (or non) corn products such as pasta, chips, tortillas, etc... I get severe nerve pain the next day. Usually it is real bad carpal tunnel flare up, tingling in toe and arms/legs fall asleep or tingle after even a minute of being bent. I have been trying to find more information on this topic but have been unable to. I also find processed corn, even organic with two or three ingredients very addictive. It's obvious I need to just stay away from it. Does anyone else have this issue or a bad reaction to processed corn?

  • corn's a grain even non gmo corn tests positive for gmo... we lost corn and it may not have been for us in the first place...

"Corn Too starchy, not optimal but acceptable transition food when eaten fresh. Sweet fresh corn off the stalk, indicating easy digestion of the high sugar content, but soon turning starchy and less digestible within hours of picking."

  • Hi,

I have been researching a lot about Hashimoto and autoimmune diseases lately, and found out that people with autoimmune diseases need to stay away from gluten. But as many doctors explain, not only gluten, also corn, rice, millet, and other foods, because they are cross-reacting with gluten. It means that, if you have a gluten intolerance, the immune system also reacts when you eat corn, millet, and other foods, because they are very similar to gluten so we call it cross-reaction. It´s different from cross-contamination, it is more a cross-reaction allergic response.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is associated with autoimmune diseases like Hashimoto I have learnt, but maybe in your case that is isolated. Or do you know if you have an autoimmune disease?

Anyways, here is a video that explains the importance of following an anti-inflammatory diet:

and here an other that explains how corn is a food we may have to avoid if we have a gluten intolerance:

There are lots of videos on youtube about this subject.

    • Hi, Loane. I do have Hashimoto and it has been out of control for 5 years. I did go gluten free about 7 months ago in an attempt to get it under control. I have had one blood test since and it is the first one to come back normal so I believe the gluten free diet is helping. I was aware the sometimes other grains can be bad too. I know I cannot eat much oatmeal. I feel grains are addictive to me and it is very hard for me to give them up. I am still on medication for Hashimoto. I find this disease so debilitating when my levels are off that I am afraid to go off the medication. That sounds kind of dumb because the medication isn't working...I don't really understand why, when I know something makes me feel bad, I have such a hard time stopping that action or habit.

I appreciate the great info. The videos are great. I subscribed to both so I can check out more of their vids.

Have you heard anything negative about buckwheat (this is not a form of wheat) or millet? I like those a lot but they don't feel addictive. By addictive for me I mean I feel like I have to have it, over eat on it and still want more, and crave it but the cravings stop when I remove it from my diet.

        • Thanks Sunshine

great video. It now makes sense to me why some people can´t tolerate grains, even gluten free. A cooked vegan diet is then not for everyone....Unfortunately.

        • Great video!

      • Several folks here have healed from Hashimoto's on HCRV.  Diane L. is one of them: Dramatic Improvement in Thyroid Test!!!

        • Thanks for the link.

      • I have sent you a private message, it´s long, I hope you will get it entirely. let me know.

  • There is a certain percentage of GMOs allowed in  organic corn so it may be a reaction to GMOs.  Learn the important facts about GMOs in this short 1 hour and 20 min. documentary:

It could be gluten if the corn was cross contaminated.  In any case it is a food that does not work for you and that's okay, there are plenty of other choices out there.  Corn did not work for Tarah either:
