Bananas splitting before ripening

In my 20kg box of bananas, i peer into the depths of unripe just-yellow's, and find many to be split open (almost the full length of the banana). They are certainly not ripe yet.
Anyone else had this happen? What to do to prevent it from future occurrence, and will they still ripen?

  • Is it very warm where you're keeping them? It could be the combo of the bananas crowded together and warm air temperature. It's pretty warm where I am and I've noticed bananas are much more likely to split when I store them outside or in the car.

  • That happens very rarely to me, and certainly not to a whole box. Seems like bad batch. What brand is it?
  • mmmm ........ same here

Might be something to do with poor harvesting / post care or normal process when left on tree ...

I put mine in container to prevent fruit flies till ripe

  • I'd return them...
