begginer vegan weight gain experience

Hello everybody,My name is patrik and im a passionate high carb vegan who believes in durian riders theory that no amount of sugar with excersize can be turned to fat. Simply put, you can eat as much as you want. Perhaps i was overdoing it that the classic 10-15 bananas for breakfast and lunch each, plus 500g rice or pasta with vegetables for dinner. I excersize around 7 hours weekly and im am always trying to be active. However, "the fat you eat is the fat you wear" cant explain why i gained quite alot of fat on mz hips and stomach. Can someone help me? Som explanation or similar experiences would be great! When did your weight start to decrease after turning on a high carb low fat vegan diet?THANK YOU!!!

  • does your weight gain seem to coincide with rest periods? IE days off or easy days scale goes up a notch?

Thats sorta been my issue. I started at 150lbs I dropped to 140 maintained that easily for a while then i had an easy week of exercise only ran like 30 miles spent a lot of time sitting in the car traveling in the span of 2 weeks i put on 10lbs all while eating how i had been eating for months.

since that time the scale has krept up now again I've backed off my running a little bit to recover from some injuries walking a couple days running the rest and only running about 45 miles a week instead of 50-60. not a huge draw down but ALAS the scale went up on me again another few lbs.

I cant logically explain my gain other then perhaps the rest has gotten my body to build on a little muscle? my weight is generally pretty stable otherwise. I've eaten more then i eat now and not gained at all heck I've even run less and not gained too I dont get it.

  • HI,

I started this lifestyle just one week before every triathlon race. As it increased my performace, I continued. Before (before august) I ate a "healthy" diet with high quality milk, meat, eggs and especially fish. I am extremly sure I am not going above 10 percent fat as I eat no oil and "vegan yogurt" products or the american alternative vegan foods. Any tips for me? Quite interestingly, my legs got very lean and yet my stomach got much bigger (expanded).

  • It takes time for the body to adjust to more calories from carbs.  No you are not over doing it.  What was your prior eating like?  Are you tracking with cronometer to make sure you do not go over 10% fat?
