best vitD supplement?

Hi all,

can anyone recommend a decent vitamin D supplement? I'm aware of Vitashine which claims to be the only vegan D3 supplement, but is fairly expensive. Has anybody had success with other brands? Cheers.

  • do any of these hurt your stomach?  one time i took a vit d and it hurt my stomach.

  • The Nature's Plus D3 that I posted is vegan.  There aren't many, but there are a few out there other than Vitashine.

  • Here's my fav.  I think it's vegan, but I haven't confirmed it with the company.  It's a liquid, and one drop is 2000 IU's of D3.  It's in a olive oil base and actually tastes really delicious, plus I love not having to swallow a pill.

  • Vitashine is really good value for money now. They have a 5000IU D3 capsule, which makes it excellent value for money.

    • Adam, what dose of the Vitashine do you recommend?  Thanks....

      • Hey myra,

It depends on your ethnicity, age and whether you are deficient (as proven by blood test). If deficient, probably 10000IU per day for a couple of months. Otherwise for maintenance one 5000IU capsule would be way more than enough. Alternatively, the spray, which is a much lower dose, would be fine. 1000IU would be fine for maintenance, probably more than enough.

        • Thanks, Adam, for this helpful info....Did you happen to have before and after Vit D blood work done when consuming this vegan D3?  Thanks again....

  • No, just take one or the other.  A lot of people say you have to have D3 and that D2 is ineffective.  I've also heard that our body's have no problem converting the D2 into D3.  I don't really know too much about it, but judging by the way my body reacted I confidently feel both those products are effective for me.  If I forget to take my vitamin D for a few days or so my body let's me know, so if they weren't working I could tell.  Also prior to using these ones, I used to use non vegan D3 made from sheep's wool and that stuff did not go well for me, mainly sun exposure would result in head aches.  No such problem with these two.

Out of these two though, I do prefer the natures plus.

  • These are my two favorites.

Both vegan, and both effective for me.  Not sure if you can get them in the UK though.

  • Skinni - Ha! I wish I could get some sun, unfortunately in the UK the UV index has been less than 3 pretty much since last may :-( We had a horrible overcast summer and i was stuck in a lab for most of it.

Poodle - Yeah tanning salons are an option but like you say most of them don't use UVB and using the beds for 5mins just seems odd. Also tablets are cheaper.
