Hiya. Does anyone have any recommendations for a slightly cheaper blender that is still able to pulverise greens completely? I'd like to make more green smoothies with spinach, kale, romaine etc. but my current blender leaves some of the fibres intact.

I'm thinking about maybe a Magimix, as it's 1200W, anyone used one of those?

  • Nutribullet for under $100 new with warranty is a good choice.

  • I have a black & decker blender that I got at Target for like $35 I think. I make green smoothies with orange juice and lettuce and it comes out almost the same consistency as pulpy orange juice. You have to feed it a few leaves at a time or it doesn't fully blend them, but I fit a whole head of green leaf in one smoothie before. I guess you could strain it, but I just drink it straight up, the texture doesn't bother me :P I've never tried denser greens like spinach or kale though.

I'd give the black & decker blender a solid B+ and would definitely recommend it for someone on a tight budget. The jar is small (definitely no 20 banana smoothies here), but it's made of glass and easy to clean, which is nice. The cord folds up in the base for storage. It's loud when it's running though.

    Here it is: http://www.target.com/p/black-decker-silver-12-speed-700-watt-blend...

  • I bought a ninja but tossed it before usung it.

The thing reeks of plastic fumes during use, and those fumes are definately going into the juice.

Be warned! Throw your ninja's in the trash where they belong
  • i use a Ninja which is 1000 watts. its cheap too. $80!!

  • not the ninja. I get flakes of romaine in mine *sigh*.

I'm curious what people say about the oster beehive is it? I keep hearing good stuff about that thing.

    • I love my Oster.  I used to think I'd get a high speed blender eventually, but after using a friend's Vitamix while staying at their house I don't even want one anymore.  Search my discussions; I go on and on about my blender somewhere.  I've had mine for a few years, and I use it every day, sometimes 4 or 5 times.  I blend greens, frozen fruit, dates, nuts.  Osters are cool cause you can screw the blade onto a standard mouth canning jar and blend small amounts of things really well - dressings or whatever.  I recently found a stainless steel blender jar for it at a thrift store for 80¢, which made my week.

    • I had one for less than a year. It was pretty good but I needed to soak my dates otherwise it would leave tiny bits and not make the datorade smooth. And I couldn't soak the dates in the blender overnight because water would leak out by the morning.

After about 8 months it started leaking black oil from the bottom, maybe I just got a bad one? I don't know, but I went with a vitamix this time, and it's sooo much better!

      • That's just a problem with the blade.  You can buy a new one for less than $10.  That's one of the things I love about Osters - you can actually replace parts on them.  Parts are cheap, easy to get, and mostly interchangeable between models.

    • It's well worth it.  I got it a year ago and it's a champ.  You can't make banana ice cream in it but regular smoothies are fine.

Once when I was making a corn dressing with my bro's vitamix it overheated and shut itself off while the oster beehive would've taken care of it no problem.

And yes it does pulverize greens, dates, or anything if you let it blend for a minute.

      • Do you have a Yonanas for ice cream?  They're pretty cheap and they work really well.  I've had mine for two years now and it's seen a loooot of use.
