Blood Test Results After 3.5 Years

So, after 3.5 years on the high carb vegan lifestyle, here I have my blood test results...

Glucose: 82 mg/dL

Total Cholesterol: 125 mg/dL

HDL: 43 mg/dL

LDL: 66 mg%

Triglycerides: 79 mg/dL

Vitamin B12: 577 pg/mL

Vitamin D: 123 nmol/L

Sodium, potassium, TSH, were all normal and in range too, even though I get a heck of a lot of potassium every single day and I don't eat salt AT ALL.

The only supplement that I take is a sublingual B12 twice a week.

My diet is comprised only of fruits, vegetables, grains (99% of the time rice) and legumes. 99.9% whole foods, nothing processed, no juices, no refined sugar.

  • And what about your bones/calcium :) this is great information, thanks for sharing.

P.s: when did you go vegan and how did you transition? And what were the first few weeks/months of side effects from cutting out foods?

    • I forgot to ask about calcium, but I suppose it must be good as well, since my vitamin D is on the higher side of the range plus I run a lot, which increases bone density.

I went vegan in April 2011, cold turkey to 99% raw (only a meal of plain potatoes here and there). I kept that up for about 6 months and then switched to a mix of the 80/10/10 and the McDougall's Diet (way before "RawTill4" was created).

I did a 8 days fast before starting the high carb vegan path, and I didn't have any detox symptoms that I can remember.

  • I started taking it as a precaution. Nobody should wait till getting deficient, because by that time it might be too late (B12 deficiency is a serious issue and can lead to permanent nerve damage).

The B12 is a super cheap supplement. It would be silly from me not to take it! :)

I think every person who follows a plant based diet should take a B12 supplement.

I myself had a value of smaller then 37 though and that was for years before becoming vegan i'm 100% sure of.. so absorbtion issues.
