I have 2 bug bites that at first i just thought that they were mosquito bites, but then these red spots (diameter of both 2-2.5cm)

At the side of my left upperleg, i think the bite might have been around the same time as the other one (which was at the shortest around sunday/saturday), but the redness is coming up new now.

On the back of my right upperleg: (this has been like this for multiple days probably since sunday or something.)

In the beginning they just felt like mosquito bites so i put my nails in it, but then i saw the spot on the back of my leg and thought it was a different insect.

I live in the netherlands. any ideas? should i worry about it?

  • Reading into it i'm getting more and more the idea that some ticks might have been there i can't find another explanation for such red spots that appear a while after.. but if i go to the doctor they will probably give me antibiotics just on the gamble, which is good if it is a lyme infection, but not so if it isn't.

    • @Taka

They will test you for Lyme disease.

If you need medications, take them.  Its not worth living a low quality of life over it.

I look at it like taking 2 steps backward to go 3 steps forward.

We dont advocate drug abuse, but we do advocate proper medical care when needed.

      • as far as i know you can't really test for lyme, they have a vague blood test testing for antibodies against it, but it doesn't really say much if it comes back negative. something like that..

Though i thought it might've been horseflies, though back in the day when i was stung a lot by them i only swol up that was on my arms though, i don't remember any red spots.

But when i showed a coworker he immediately thought it was horseflies, but when i mentioned maybe he said yeah just check with doctor or something.

There were slight swellings with these too though, but nothing near what happened to my arms and fingers back in the day, but now it's on the legs and maybe i've built up a better resistance to the bites through diet etc. anyway i call the doctor monday if they're still there.

  • well it could be a spider bite. I would wait to see if it develops any swelling, or you get sick, etc.

  • You should probably see a doctor.  Spider bites can take a few days for full effects.

Then there is possibility of a tick bite or some other parasite.

    Good luck.  Peace, PK

    • i called the general practice cause i also needed to order needles and stuff for my b12 injections and mentioned it, but she came with appointments either tommorow afternoon when i can't because i have to work and monday early in the morning, but i said mehh.. if monday i worry about it i'll call again.

i don't think it's thick bites, though can't be excluded, but as far as i know thick bites don't feel like mosquito bites, when going over them with a finger when they were feeling like mosquito bites (itch) they also felt like them in form.

Spider bites, i don't know what spiders would've done it then and how they got there, but maybe, though that's nothing to worry about i assume with dutch spiders.
