  • I think grains are great, but we're definitely not eating the same grains our parents were.  Bleached white flour is a pretty dead grain, you know?  And that started happening as far back as the early 1900's:

I used to grind up wheat berries in my Blendtec before I found out about my gluten allergy, that was good stuff.  But like your article says...loads of garbage now comes along with even food storage grains, from Roundup to who knows what.  Since I'm not too keen on importing flours from other parts of the world to see if that solves my gluten issues, I've just kept off it & avoiding the fatigue, headaches, etc.   I suspect either my gut flora in my upper GI was wiped out by antibiotics as a kid, or the added junk in modern grains is what's doing it, but instead of finding that out further, it's easier to just order some dates online & feel good all the time.  Meh.

    • Amen! I never feel like I'm healing much until I get away from even gluten free subs and revert to good old fashioned fruits and veggies!
  • It might be a combination of things.  There are people with true gluten sensitivities and or Celiac disease and we cannot dismiss these individuals.  There are also genetic tests to prove this, and or some people are so sensitive to gluten and or some grains that they will have symptoms no matter what the source.

You can google more about gluten sensitivity and Celiac disease and check out legit medical sites like PubMed.com or Medlineplus.com.

There are also some great books out there such as Going Against the Grain, Wheat Belly, and Grain Damage you can find on amazon.com that further explain the wheat, grain, and gluten issue.

For evidence of why a low fat fruitarian diet is optimum, read these free ebooks:

THE HEALTH REVOLUTION by ROSS HORNE CH 15: DIET AND NUTRITION

IMPROVING ON PRITIKIN— YOU CAN DO BETTER   by Ross Horne In particular, chapter 10, grains are for the birds.

In the 1970s-1980s, Nathan Pritikin promoted a low fat cooked vegan diet that was high in grains and starchy food and similar to the DrMcDougall program now.  Pritikin had great success with assisting individuals with cardiovascular problems, but not necessarily other degenerative diseases such as arthritis and or cancers.

Of particular interest is chapter 10 "Grains Are for the Birds."

The author Ross Horne went on to follow a low fat raw fruitarian diet similar to what we promote here for those who are fully raw.

    • Thanks, I love free books ;D
  • Great article.  One of the first books I read on nutrition was why organic?.  From 18 years on I have bought virtually all my food 100% organic for myself and my kids and spouse.  Grains are not meant for human consumption, fruit is our natural food that we evolved on.   Our brains have shrunk since we have been eating cooked.  Weight Loss Should Be Easy: Brain Loss Shouldn't Be

    • Did you ever notice any difference in how you felt after switching to organic? I'd love to buy organic fruit but I live in such a small Midwestern town with limited resources and a ministry budget lol.
