HELP - my caffeine addiction

I am finally willing to start weening of the caffeine, but I am scared.  I've quit cold turkey in the past and the withdrawal was really bad and I think it was such a shock to my system that I got sick...so this time I want to ween myself off.  I usually have a shot of espresso in the morning and then some days I'll have a half a cup of coffee a few hours later or another espresso shot.  So I'm not drinking a ridiculous amount, but I feel like I am still very sensitive to its effects and going without any really makes me ill.  Any suggestions and support would be much appreciated!

  • thanks for the tips and support everyone!  day 2 without coffee...definitely wanting some but I am munching on grapes instead. also I went to bed at 8:00 last night and woke up at 5:30. would not be motivated to take this step for my health without y'all!

  • It's hard to quit but not that hard. you will feel !@#$ for a few weeks, but anythings possible. I went cold turkey from 6-8 espressos a day overnight. It will a month of feeling crap, but you will feel better and sleep better. just keep the goal in mind, remember you don't want caffeine as act as a crutch to hold you up. You can do it. Like others say replace caffeine with a little extra sweet food will give the extra energy zapped from the fatigue of coming down.

  • Go cold turkey and replace it with 100g of sugar water each time you would normally have caffeine. #htfu
  • You are a drug addict and need help haha!

Just ditch it man and let your body detox out for a few years. I did.

If you NEED stims to 'get it done' then you shouldnt be doing it because it is not what you really want to do!!

    • lol I AM actually a drug addict ha recovered so I just had to lol at this post...

that being said I hate being addicted to any substance and I am curious about life free from addiction to said substances.  Coffee is my last thing that I struggle to let go of.

I appreciate everyone's input and while I know that coffee isn't heroin, I don't want to need it to function.  thanks for the support and motivation!

      • Just ditch it Amanda. You don't need it.

        Get more rest and sleep.

I was tired today after a busy week of late nights so laid in the sun until I didnt want to lay down anymore and now Im charged AF ready to tackle anything.

      • Caffeine isn't heroin sure but it's still a powerful drug, I'm a recovering heroin/crack addict and I avoid it like the plague. It's also physically&psychologically addictive like heroin in that you will go through physical withdrawal , although not nearly as severe obs.

I think that because these drugs are legal and socially accepted that we think that they are not as harmful for us as illegal drugs are which is bs, also in my experience if your a recovering addict as long as your addicted to any substance no matter how minor you think it is it's gonna leave you far more open to a total relapse, hope you can get of get of that ****! , best just to knock it on the head cold imo.

  • I'm big on black coffee, can't just get anything done without it. I've come to terms with my coffee addiction, best I could do is lower the amount caffeine in every drink, but coffee isn't all bad, its an anti-oxidant, specially consumed empty stomach, helps lower the inflammation.

    • Ya if you can't get anything done without it, chances are high that you have a serious adrenal fatigue issue.  The sooner you address it the easier it will be to heal.  Eliminating salt and coffee and high adrenaline activities while increasing your vitamin, mineral, fiber, water intake and sleep is the path to healing.

      • I understand and trying cut down slowly and strategically. To eliminate all in once would be a shock to the system, not sure I'm ready to take. Coffee addict can easily understand what I mean :).

        Thanks for the advice.
