I've been trying to search for this since it's got to have been asked before but couldn't find it.

So after having a grapefruit or a kiwi green smoothie or sea buckthorn juice can you go for a big banana smoothie or if you want to have an acidic brunch, how soon can you go for a sweet or cooked carb second lunch or dinner?

About acids and ptyalin / amylase?

Is it only the salivary amylase that gets inhibited (so it's only an in-the-same-meal thing) or does the pancreatic amylase also get inhibited by acidic fruits so you have to wait for full digestion of an acidic meal before you go for carbs?

  • After oranges and clementines and stuff i usually wait at least 2 hours, based on this: http://www.unani.com/digestion_time_of_foods.htm

    • Thanks! That looks like a great reference!

  • I'd wait at least 2-3 hrs, but you can experiment and your body will let you know.
